there's a new(er) air and space museum close to the airport, not in downtown dc, def. worth the visit if you like aviation.. they've got a blackbird, one of the shuttles, think Enterprise, and about a hundred planes from various time periods. Our tour guide was also very good (free tour, just wait till they announce one).most of the museums are worth visiting, the national archives is interresting

Holocaust is pretty freaky, especially the shoe exhibit so mentally prepare yourself for the worst if u go there.... On a fun note, go to Dream I love that place. Also go to Potomac Mills and Georgetown if you can and/or like to shop. Stay away from the PG places

Theres this great hole in the wall in Chinatown called Chinatown Express. They make their own noodles. The fried noodles (lo mein) are great.http://cuveeamericain.blogspot.com/2005/12/chinatown-express-washington-dc.htmlAlso, Clyde's in Georgetown was great. The Guiness Beef Stew kicks ass. Also, the Capitol City Brewing Company is one of my favorites. Gotta hit up Chipotle too.[Edited on February 20, 2006 at 10:38 AM. Reason : ?]

Take a day up in the georgetown area - the campus is nice and has nice views of the potomac...head up to the national zoo and national cathedral and just go for a stroll along Wisconsion and M streets.

The Smithsonian Museum of Natural History is really cool. I would suggest checking the hours of all the places you want to go before you actually go. I've been to DC twice, and both times managed to find something awesome fifteen minutes before it closed.

Man I was on the Green Line one Day goin to PG Plaza (don;t ask me why) and this chick was askin for money bc she needed to get home/out of the subway, etc.... We were like we don't have any... looked over there and she had a roll of money counting it and clearly it was only about to take a dollar and some change to get out. Oh yeah don't get on the subway, just drive.... the metro there is sooooo stupid.

Shit, if you want to avoid high crime all together, then I'd say just don't come to DC at all...like I said, if you're careful about your surroundings, you should be fine anywhere west of the Anacostia. I work near Columbia Heights and Adams Morgan, live in NE DC and I've never had much problem. I get hit up for money, of course, but hell...that happens in every big city (and it happened to me a few times on Hillsborough St.).
