dell inspiron 1000. screen is busted, how much would that cost to replace?

a lot.

they are expensive, exact price depends on the model and screen type, but most Hp's and IBM's (i do service work on those) and more expensive than it is worth.

when this happened to me i was able to find an LCD on ebay for $175 and replaced it myself.

IF you can find the screen on ebay or whatever for less than $200, go for it, they're easy to replace, or someone on here can do it easily enough (me included)...otherwise, i'd buy myself a new laptop

^ exactly...i have a 1.4mhz p4 laptop with a busted screen that i turned into a stereo...added a usb 5.1 surround decoder and a remote control and it's freakin' awesome for a sound system

I turned an old toshiba into a digital picture frame after I went through 2 frames on ebay, paid about 50 each for the screens. Actually I did the DPF after i replaced the screen the second time.
