I can't log into the router (192.168.1.1) on the main PC its hook up to. I have tried resetting and unplugging the router many times. The lights (power, internet, and LAN light) flash erractically.I think the router just shit out on me. Any ideas?

Power surge possibly. Were there any pc's connected to it directly?
2/16/2006 9:24:01 PM
RR internet is hooked up to it, then the internet into the PC. The internet works fine on the PC its hooked to.

So you just can't log into it? but it works fine in terms of giving you an IP adress and connecting to the internet? How about wireless is that working?

sounds like the thing shit the bedI had one at work do the same shit to me. it wouldn't do a goddamned thing.we get frequent power surges at my office too.

To reset the IP address, don't you have to do something special? Are you sure you're using the right IP?
2/16/2006 9:46:00 PM
Yeah, this is something I think everyone should be reminded of (may have nothing to do with the router) but EVERYONE needs to have their routers on a surge protector. I've had my whole network hit by shit that came in over the router because it was on an ineffective surge protector, and I know smoothcrim has too. Didn't kill my pc's but did fry the nic's. If any of them were laptops, it would have been pretty bad. Wireless solves this, but your router can still get killed by surges. It's funny though, the routers seem MUCH more affected by small power surges than anything else.

I have a WRT54G and the factory default for the IP was http://192.168.15.1/

that's just weird

^^ NO

^ that's crazy. did you buy it new or used? perhaps you bought a returned one?
2/17/2006 12:35:21 AM
New. Didn't seem to be returned or anything. You can usually tell with the packaging, and the shrink wrap was definitely not a redo job. I know it wasn't 192.168.1.1 out of the box because I had a bookmark to that address I kept handy for my previous router and the link of course did not work (backed up by manual entry).[Edited on February 17, 2006 at 12:47 AM. Ditto on the .15 being the default ... crazy bastards. Changed it so I wouldn't cuss myself every time I needed to login.Tried leaving it unplugged for a couple of hours?Tried plugging it in to a UPS?Any pattern to the flashing?

Haha, I wonder how many people returned routers because they couldn't log in when they triend 192.168.1.1
2/17/2006 12:04:26 PM
haven't tried the .15 yet but its weird, when i was trying to 192.168.1.1 the browser would act like it found the address and would just get stuck on it for a couple of minutes before I got a Page not found.
