Has anybody heard of this company bc I have a friend who might have an interview with the company and I just wanted to see if anybody had any experience with this company or they know anybody that works for this company and how they like it. I went to State but my friend goes to school in SC and just wanted to see if anyone has heard about them. Thanks.

I am 100% positive that they have a website.
2/14/2006 8:49:24 PM
Really? would it be kinda biased?
2/14/2006 8:50:48 PM
I suppose so, but for basic information, you can't beat it.I talked with a girl that works for them at NC States job fair last week and she seemed really cool. It never hurts, ever, to interview, if for nothing else than the practice.Sageworks seems like they have a good product and as long as they continually innovate and agressively market, they will be around for a while, unless they are bought out in which case employee stock options will come in handy, if they issue them.

k so i was curious (legitimately), googled, and found this...http://forums.raleigh.craigslist.org/?act=Q&ID=38207682thought you might find it interesting... could be inaccurate, but who knows
2/14/2006 9:32:50 PM
ouch

i went to an interview at their office last week. it was crucial. they definately want you to produce NOW. also....product seems aimed at a rather narrow audience.

I don't trust postings as short as that craiglist, even if they are true. If the person had a legitimate complaint, they should have elaborated in more detail on specific grievances. "Working like a dog" ... does that mean the person doesn't like working 60/hrs a week first starting out ... or what? Doesn't help the rest of us if we can't understand what a company is really like.

Sorry, after reading the initial post all I came away with was:

I actually started working with Sageworks part-time right before I graduated last spring as a financial analyst with a full-time offer on the table. They seem pretty legit, innovative product, they're just like any small company. Growing like a weed. I guess it just depends on what your friend is interviewing for. If its for sales, he/she will be cold calling. But don't let that scare you off, thats just to start, they offer very competitive salaries and stock options. When I was there they were aggresively calling themselvest the next Google. I believe they are trying to go public soon. Ultimately I got a better job offer, but I strongly considered working with them.

Anyone else have any experience with this company? I interviewed with them last week.

don't take that craigslist post too seriously....sales is hard work, and a lot of people don't realize that...they get in to any sales position and just burn out
3/26/2006 5:34:24 PM
$30k plus commission for salesits a long day, 7:30am until around 6pmand although they give you a certain area of the country with accountants phone numbers, it is cold calling

Sales is very hard and very competitive. If you wish to succeed on it, you literally have to be a hungry shark almost all the time. You can make lots of money, but the work and risks involved are much higher then any other industry.Shit aint like working at the NC State annual fund.

i worked there 2 1/2 days last summerthey want 100 calls per day. you can dress however you like since you are on the phone all day and never speak face to face to anyone.
3/26/2006 7:52:53 PM
^2 1/2 days eh? you must have enjoyed it...what was your experience with it?
3/26/2006 9:00:13 PM
the first day was just sitting with someone and "learning the ropes". the next, i was on the phone. i basically set one of their recordsfor new guys. i set 8 appointments that day.btw, you set appointments for the prospect to come to a "webinar" which is an online seminar that is conducted by the owner of the company. in essence, i felt like i wasn't even doing the whole job, but rather just trying to attract people.i just hated having that headset on all day and looking at a list of phone numbers. there was no way i could sit at a cubicle all day and just dial, dial, dial.

the person will be forced to make 150 phone calls a day trying to sell financial software=crappy job

Sounds to me like one of those companies that puts all the money into marketing and sales rather than development. It's one thing to use that strategy to sell stereos (Bose), but to try to use that strategy to sell to businesses? That boggles my mind. The success of that strategy hinges on image and impulsiveness, which would have little effect on a business customer.
10/13/2006 8:57:08 PM
Dont know much about them other than they called me up and wanted to hire me for the development/programming like RIGHT then and there and I couldn't take the position (they didnt read the part about me going to grad school I guess, or wanted to see if I'd not go if I got hired).

I worked there for a while. If you are a good at sales you can easily make $75,000 in your first year. If you are an awesome salesman you can make close to $200,000. There are lots of people there doing it up big. It just takes a strong will and a good work ethic. It's a really fun place to work, but it's definitely not for everyone. It's worth trying though just because of the potential. The only reason I left was to take another job. You have to be relatively cocky and confident, and also a pretty good people person. So, I would say it's unsuitable for 98% of people on the wolfweb.

10/15/2006 8:17:10 PM
honestly it sounds like the shit should sell itself.
10/15/2006 8:49:58 PM
So why the aggressive marketing? If the product is great and everybody is using it then it should sell itself. Why aren't they focusing their marketing in their image and reputation, rather than cold calling? Cold calling makes your company look like pissant amateurs.

There are several individuals there (22-25 year olds) making 60-100k a year. But they are working hard for it. Just like in ANY sales (Car sales, Modular homes, Cell phones, furniture, software.. etc) Your job security = your ability to produce and meet your sales goals. There are individuals who were-not able to sell, which I believe is more because of Sageworks hiring tactics. (The company tends to hire people straight out of college) I think that if they focused their recruiting procedures on more EXPERIENCED sales professionals, it would work out better, because experienced sales people know what to expect.I like the job myself, and the opportunity to make decent money. However I have Sold everything from Business class OC3 & T3 Services for Sprint, to Door 2 door sales of vaccum cleaners. Because of the Speed in which the company is growing, there are several opportuinities for advancement as well. unlike typical corporations.. you dont have to wait for someone to die.[Edited on October 16, 2006 at 12:45 AM. nobody ever made a lot of money easilyit's one of the biggest myths that pollute our societyif you want to go make $40,000 or whatever at some office job and not do shit, that's fineif you want to make $80,000/yr right out of college work at Sageworkscase closed

when it comes down to it, sales sucks (no offense to anyone in sales)[Edited on October 18, 2006 at 10:03 AM. Reason : .]
10/18/2006 10:02:32 AM
yep, all sales generallyif you can sell though, you can sell anythingit truly is a lifelong skill
10/18/2006 10:03:10 AM
That is true. If you are really a people person and are outgoing enough to go all out every day, you can be successful. I wish anyone going into sales good luck.
10/18/2006 10:05:04 AM
oh and keep in mind the HR people got to be in HR because they were excellent salespeopleyou can be sold on working there
10/18/2006 10:19:47 AM
I got recruited to do an interview with them, and I went in for it, but after talking with the guy I decided that cold calling people for 10 hours a day was close to my idea of hell.
10/18/2006 10:24:59 AM
agreed

if they are such a terrible company can you explain their rapid growth year over year?
10/20/2006 8:41:42 AM
We'll see where they are 5 years from now.Something is obviously amiss when they are hiring so many unqualified people and have such high turnover. They recruit their sales people the same way they sell their software: cold calling. I get an email from them every now and then for sales/marketing positions. I'm an engineer.
