How fucking stupid.Your thread implies that they dropped him because he was a vet, which clearly, at least from the article you posted, isn't the case.

I think what he's trying to say is they love it when a vet is against the war, but they don't have enough balls to back such a guy.

Calling the fundraisers and encouraging them to pull support is low, but it's nothing unique to the Democratic party--and you know that. Another case of "t3h l3ft's shit stinks, but t3h r1ght's smells like roses" from TGD, but I'll play anyway.

Hackett's clearly a victim here, but it's only incidental that he's a victim of t3h l3ft. He's more a victim of political miscalculation than anything else; something the right should have learned plenty about with Harriet Miers. But you didn't see me making threads about how "teh R1ght *loves* women...unless it comes down to promoting one of their own. so spare me the sanctimony and stfukkthxbye" because it would've been stupid. The Democrats blew this one big time, though. There's no doubt about that. Brown's late decision was too Perot-ish to start a campaign with, and I doubt he's going to get anywhere because of it.Hackett should have ignored the party leaders on principle. If I'd been managing his campaign, I would've called the DNC on its bluff and would have told him to continue his campaign despite their pressure like he said he'd do in the first place. I doubt they would've been able to defeat him in the primaries even after encouraging his donor base to stop giving. As you've mentioned in those threads you despise so much, it was primarily his politics that brought him so close to winning the special House election; not his support from the big whig donors of the party. I highly doubt they would've been able to successfully pry his support from smaller individual contributions through MoveOn, Air America, and similar groups who were largely responsible for his rise to prominence in the first place; besides, he'd already achieved good recognition and had a better chance of beating DeWine anyway.I think what's being lost in this story of old school politics is that in the end, Hackett was little different than his counterparts in a fundamental way. Sure, he may have said "At the end of the day, my word is my bond and I will take it to my grave," but he also said in no uncertain terms that no matter what kind of pressure the party put on him, he was going to run to the end.I'm disappointed by the Democratic party (which isn't a surprise) for giving everyone another shining example of their political incompetence, and with Hackett for not sticking by his original convictions.

well dammit fuck all 3 of you thenit wasn't "shown other Iraq vets were in teh races" until Gamecat's post an hour after spook's stupidity. my mistake for thinking "one of their own" -- especially given the topic, TWW history, and the actual contents of the fucking story -- would be construed as the obvious career-politician-who-talks-a-lot-about-loving-vets -but-never-actually-served -but-that-only-matters-when-its-a-Republican Sherrod Brown[Edited on February 15, 2006 at 12:33 PM. don't know, it's not like I'd actually consider this trying. to quote one of your own, "Of course you don't care when your worldview is getting pumped into every house through every TV every day of the week"...
