in my defense, up to that point i had only listened to sung tongs.. i much prefer electronic-era AC.

i saw them at the Cradle in 2004 when they were playing mostly Feels stuff... really good show, definitely a different experience than seeing them now. a lot more psychedelic/droney

yeah i definitely like the reverb laden, guitar droning AC much more than earlier (acoustic, pitch raised) and current (bass heavy, catchy)what song got everyone into it and if you had to pick one to play for a friend who'd never heard, which one would you play?i got hooked on Kids on Holiday, just went randomly to it on my ipod sophmore year and never looked back, it fared very well with my friends when we were high but not very well sober, loli think Did You See The Words is the one I play for most people

i have barely scratched the surface of Animal Collective. and i mean barely.
1/27/2009 2:32:57 PM
i'd say the new album is definitely a good starting point.. it's by far their most accessible album

I just want four walls and adobe slats for my girls.

i will never see them. it is like, impossible. SOMETHING always stands in my way. this is probably, out of all the shows i could go to, the one i want to go to most. because i've never been to an AC show and i want to and i wish (honestly) that i had gotten to see them before this album (not that i don't love the album, because i do). but i didn't because i'm cursed and there is always something thats impossible to get out of standing in my way.i mean the dc show is sold out, but i couldn't have gone anyway because of exams. i forget what happened when they played at cradle last year. some stupid school shit. and then they played in aville and charlottesville not too long ago and again, i could NOT go. and i don't care if it is super indie or hipster or whatever to like them. def one of my favorite bands. i enjoy all albums. i really like MPP and agree with what has been said in here, it is their most accessible album yet. though i thought strawberry jam was pretty accessible; however, i also enjoy their entire collection from their "weirdest" albums to stuff like strawberry jam and MPP. so i guess i am biased. i guess what i like the most, and this is probably just me, is how unclassifiable they are. i know people throw around the term "freak folk" but when i think freak folk i think more like joanna newsom. i mean i know genres are broad. but i just think there's so much there--when you look at their entire catalog. like its folky, its poppy, its psychedelic. i just really enjoy this band. and i don't care if that makes me lame.kanye likes them (apparently), so how lame can i be really. oh but i'm also interested to hear the transition and thought process of people who just picked up MPP or even Strawberry Jam and have worked their way "backwards" or whatever through the catalog. i just think its interesting. you can listen to a song like my girls and then go pick up the sung tongs album and i feel like some people are going to be like "what??" or maybe not. maybe they'll really like it. i just am interested. /blog (kinda)
