is the laptop damaged/not turning on? is the hard drive dead? or do you just need help getting files transfered?

if the laptop works fine, a trick to getting files moved to another PC is to load AIM on both computers and log on with different account names (make up a new one if needed) then transfer files through AIM. it's a lot easier than setting up a network between the 2 computers or burning it to CD or the like.

if the laptop does not work, best bet is to take it somewhere like Intrex and have them pull the data or find someone on here with a laptop IDE adaptor who can pull the hard drive and get the data off and burned to CD.

It depends on how technical savvy the user is. I'd recommend the AIM method to most of my friends/family if I didn't want to walk them step-by-step over the phone/do it myself in person.

kb, answer some of rl's questions. If the laptop is in pefect sound working order, and you simply looking to move files from one computer to another, that's fairly easily to accomplish. Let us know and we'll get back to you. If its not in working order, describe in as much detail (circumstances, steps already taken, etc.) what is happening.

the hard drive is intact i believe but the laptop won't turn on

someone's going to have to take the harddrive out and connect it to another computer and transfer teh files.

Ten to one the laptop can be fixed inexpensively. I repair most power issues for a $60 flat fee (bad/broken/desoldered connectors, etc).

They have converters for such things. Useful if you help fix dead drives a lot (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16812156015).

drunk, post how much you are willing to pay per hour and then you'll probably get some PMs.
