It just occurs to me that the M-theory unification of string theory much resembles a level boss from Megaman.I like the small dimensions as well, it easier to picture. These new large extra dimensions from the brane world models, are they supposed to fit together with the small extra dimensions... seems like two divergent lines of thought.

10 dimensional string theories are unified in the low energy limit of 11 dimensional supergravity(SUGRA). Extended solutions in SUGRA are known as branes. That's the new thing in the past decade or so, thebranes allow all kinds of new model building as well as some deeper understanding of the old 10 dimensional pictures developed in the 1970-1980's. At least that's what my impression is...
