my bf's bday is two days after valentines so i was thinking of combining the gifts into one bigger one. i can't think of anything he really wants so i thought perhaps planning a weekend trip would be fun. my first thought was charleston since neither of us has been. three questions:1) does this (a weekend getaway) sound like a good gift to you? should i go with some kind of expensive electronic? an iPod? 2) if you like the trip idea, can you suggest places other than charleston that might be fun?3) if charleston's the way to go, where's a nice place to stay? i was thinking some kind of bed and breakfast, and i'm already trying to search for past threads on this since i'm pretty sure it's been discussed before.

Do I have to be Amsterdam718 and make up some ridiculously bogus story to get a response around here?

definitely a good gift idea...more personal than an ipodi don't know places to stay since i always stay at my sister's place when i go to charleston, but make sure to eat at Fleet Landing (downtown behind the old customs house, on the water), and hang out at waterfront park.

This might not be what you have in mind, but I rented a cabin with some friends (in the blueridge mtns) from a place called ticacabins.com. Off season (which is now) you can get your own cabin with killer views and a hot tub for like $250 for three nights. We had a lot of fun, renting a big cabin with lots of people, but the whole time, I was thinking how great it would be for a couple.

charleston is great, but I'd recommend you take your first trip in the spring when the city is warmer (both in temps and in people milling about) - maybe set it up for a weekend in late march/early april and give him the itenerary for v-day

I don't know anything about Charleston, but for me, a trip is much more appreciated than something expensive, especially since I tend to be very content with what I have and don't want even more stuff.

Charleston is wonderful. I love it there. I would suggest checking out http://www.aaa.com because they have really good travel packages for 3days/2nights less tan $150.
