learn how to write first ace. Secondly, I pay 110 for HD-DVR, Cable, and Internet and I'm cool with it. 71 is a deal so you should live with it.

2/8/2006 5:09:57 PM
mine's right around 70 with dvr and rr... the 'basic' package is covered thru the apt complex so i'm really paying $50 for rr and $20 for the digital cable

my vote for the dumbest post of the week!!
2/8/2006 5:42:18 PM

you can split internet wirelessly with someone that lives near youyou can either use bittorrent to download tv episodes, or get a netflix subscription and keep copies of movies, or you can share satellite costs with a friendi'm sure you know what's legal and what's not.

i pay $100 for RR and digital cable plus hd shit on top of that and dvr.
2/8/2006 6:04:50 PM
If you're strapped on cash, just get one of the $20 DSL packages for internet use and the basic (~$15) cable package.
2/8/2006 6:09:36 PM
dFshadow has got it down.I had major problems with my internet and I talked to a neighbor and pay them a small fee to connect through their router. just keep a password on it if you do it.

ok i've got a question: time warner cable in my area offers a cable tv package with 75 channels, 15 on demand, music radio stations for $45 a month ( http://www.timewarnercable.com/sandiego/products/pricing.html ). they called me one day asking if i wanted to try the premium package for $30 a month for 6 months, and i agreed cause i wanted cable. so the guy comes out and hooks it up, and its just the 75 channels... no cable box or anything. so, am i getting ripped off? 75 channels for the promotional price of $30 a month? i think the installer was just lazy and screwed me, or was confused about what to hook up.so i pay $75 ($45 for cable internet, $30 for cable TV.... for now, after 6 months it'll go up...)

$47/month for digital cable and cable internet via comcast
2/8/2006 7:29:24 PM
on a side not, fuck comcast. i have been using autopay with them for over a year, but apparently they decided to switch it off in September without letting me know. they also didn't let me know i was late on paying my bill until a dude showed up at my door tonight to get my boxes and shit...had to cut him a check for over $800...which wouldn't be bad if I wasn't in grad school and that was half my monthly budget.
2/8/2006 7:47:06 PM
i don't pay anything. i don't have cable, and my internet comes from other sources.
2/8/2006 7:52:05 PM
$90 for Digital Cable and RR
2/8/2006 11:03:41 PM
$60 for basic channels + internet w/Adelphia.I don't watch TV enough anymore to justify the extra $30+ a month to pay for it. I could get wireless internet for free as well from the apartment complex I'm in, but I don't trust the unencrypted connections. I get two channels off the airwaves where I'm at, so basic was worth the $15/month.If your study habits don't require the TV on in the background, you probably don't need it that badly. If they do, find a way to pay for it. (I can't remember having the free time to leisurely watch TV my junior/senior year...meh)

paying about 30 a month for satellite with tivo, and 30 a month for 6mbit dsl through bellsouth. These are promotional plans though and both will go up to about 50 each after a year though. May change to digital cable+cable modem then depending on what deal's best at the time.
2/8/2006 11:27:57 PM
what's your upload speed on that 6mbit dsl package?
2/9/2006 12:24:12 AM

Does RR charge for the use of a router to network? I read in the faq that they charge a fee for additional IP addresses with a HUB but I didn't know if a router was the same deal.
2/21/2006 7:37:32 PM
no - rr does not charge for you to use your own router
2/21/2006 7:38:02 PM
i pay nothing...i steal all that i have

I think i tried your free cable with internet trick... call up saying you have an "Intermittent" connection, and they'll remove the cable filter allowing you to get free cable. Unfortunately, in my area, they do random checks and put the filter back on. Worked for a short while though. I would much rather have comcast than TWC btw
2/22/2006 11:26:31 AM
and while we're at it,anybody have an HDTV with a cable card slot (read qam decoder) picking up digital channels without without the digital cable box. I've read that you can pick up all the local channels + Discovery HD + TNT HD (no sound) + possibly extras. Anybody tried this?
2/22/2006 11:28:46 AM
nothing - there are too many free, wide-open wireless connections in my neighborhood to justify paying to check my emailas far as security goes - whatever. There are much simpler ways to get my personal info than that.Honestly, I am more worried about my house or car being broken into or being mugged on the commute home.
2/22/2006 12:39:38 PM
fair enough...the cable internet and "free" cable trick does work (or it did last year when i was in an apartment)
