I was wondering where people lived off-campus, apartments and townhouses. How safe is it?

I live at University Woods, with about 35 other TWWers.
It is relatively safe, with a few vehicle breakins and robberies a year.

sumter square apartments... its largely a family place but has a significant subset of college students. a little quieter than the places closer to campus. is between the crossroads-cary area and western blvd. having a pro family atmosphere and being near cary (ranked one of the top safest cities in the us) i think its pretty safe.

i've lived there for all of my off campus life, it was worth renewing the lease. i'll be leaving it for grad school elsewhere some time this summer though.

http://www.sumtersquareapartments.com/

1 bedroom
"1 Bed X 1 Bath, 700 Sq. Ft.
Features a spacious living room, a separate dining area, and a cozy balcony."

2 bedroom
"2 Bed X 1 Bath, 800 Sq. Ft.
Features a spacious living and dining area, great closet space, and washer and dryer connections."

"2 Bed X 1.5 Bath 1000 Sq. Ft.
Features a spacious townhouse floor plan with great closet space, and a patio."

"2 Bed X 1.5 Bath 1050 Sq. Ft.
This spacious townhouse floor plan features an eat-in kitchen, a utility room, washer and dryer connections and great closet space."

3 bedroom
"3 Bed X 2 Bath 1100 Sq. Ft.
Features a spacious living room, a separate dining area, washer and dryer connections and great closet space."

I went for the 2 Bed X 1.5 Bath 1050 Sq. Ft. option which is the most space per person if you have 1 roommate.

dominion walnut ridge. This is my second year here. I lived by myself in a one bedroom and then me and my boyfriend moved into a two bedroom, two story apartment when my old lease was up. They just renovated most of the apartments with new appliances and new carpet. Pet friendly. I've never had a problem with safety either.

College Inn. I'm not afraid of being mugged or anything, but there have been breakins, and drunken vandalism of the complex is rampant.

AlliePaige, my old roommate's car was broken into TWICE there... we watched the SWAT team raid the apartment below ours one night, witnessed a guy yelling loudly at another person threatening to stab and kill them at 2am (I called the police... it was a scene that everybody was standing on their balconies watching), saw various acts of vandalism by the neighborhood thug kids, and I saw another instance of the police raiding another apartment.

these are just the things that I PERSONALLY witnessed when i lived there.

this was at Dominion Walnut Ridge.

I haven't personally had any problems at Walnut Ridge, but I attribute that to luck. There were several cars broken into a little less than a year ago and I had to call the police on some thug beating his wife/girlfriend, right in front of their young child. There are older retired couples that live there and I know and get along with all of my neighbors. Maintenance has always been prompt and completed the job. I have lived in worse.

I'm looking for some people that I can talk to about where they live off campus. Mostly just about if they're satisfied or not and if they feel safe. If there's anyone I can talk to, please let me know.

I lived in Kensington Park, and in Lake Johnson Mews when I was in raleigh. I also lived in a house in Cary, but that's a completely different subject.

I would recommend Lake Johnson Mews from personal experience

People break into your apartment at UNIVERSITY COMMONS (twice in my case) ... and WILSON PROPERTY MANAGEMENT will not do a thing about it ... THE MANAGEMENT IS HORRIBLE! ... oh yeah and then they charge you for the window screens that were broken in another attempt ... not to mention the $937 they kept of our deposit even though the place was five times cleaner when we moved out!!! not a good choice

I live in Cameron Court. I could never live in one of those big college-apartment-complexes -- there are hardly any students that live in these apts, and they're just a mile from campus.

^you have a right to a receipt of the expenditure concerning your deposit. I ran into the same problem with a Tarheel Co. property and had my attorney right them a letter when they didn't provide one in the legal time frame.

it sucks. i lived in kenner when i first moved and then baton rouge for a bit. we ended up in gonzales because it is roughly the hlaf-way point between my job and my husband's (i'm at a refinery in norco and he is at the exxon refinery on the other side of br).

granted we live across from the country club and golf courses and we have a nice house.... but still it is so far from everything.... out in the middle of nowhere!

Cameron Village Condos II. Lived here since July '04 and am happy with it...cheap, close to campus, and safe. Very few students live here (surprisingly in my opinion); it's a mix of single folk who work, some young couples, and older folks. The places are quite small (566 sq. ft. 1-bedroom), but if you can live with that, fine otherwise.

Previously I lived in a house on Dixie Trail for 3 years, and for 2 years prior to that in University Oaks.

And to the person who had complaints about Wilson Property--they were the management co. for our house on Dixie, and aside from somewhat slow maintenance, we had no problems whatsoever. Got back almost the whole deposit when we moved out (I think there was a charge of $100 or so for some little thing, but not bad on a $1565 deposit. Yes, that was only one month's rent, such is the going rate for a 4-bedroom 1 block from campus)
