I firmly believe that men should not own cats.

In the same vein as two men sharing an umbrella. You just don't do it.

i looked in the newspaper for my cat. She was free because she had never had any shots or anything. I could tell the guy had been breeding cats for awhile. She's almost 2 years old now and a brat, but that's just her personality.
I've never really heard anything bad about adopting a cat. My mom adopted an older cat (not a kitten) and he turned out to be the biggest sweetheart.

most of the cats around my apt. are stray and dont like people, but one of them is the coolest little cat i've ever seen. She's really friendly and laid back... I'd take her but I barely have enough money to feed myself. I think some other dude feeds all of them though. Whenever he comes home there's like 8 or 9 cats running over to his house.

Unipride took in some a mother cat and her kittens as strays and found homes for them (alot of which went to fraternity brothers of Mu Beta Psi). My 2 are from her, as seen in the picture above. Great cats... I'll have to post more pics soon.

I got two kittens (littermates) from the SPCA in Garner a while back. Adoption was ~$90 each, and in the first few months there's quite a few vet visits and whatnot, too, so keep that in mind.

In terms of the adoption process and everything involved on the SPCA's part, it all went very smoothly and the experience was fine.

I adopted a cat from frith a month or so ago

good cat, little on the slow side, plus he's deaf as a post and alomst blind in one eye.

but he's adjusted well and you just have to learn that you can't get his attention unless you throw string at him...or food...he's still a bit chubby

I adopted a cat from the SPCA in October 2004. It was $90 I believe, and I consider that to be a good value since the kitten had already been neutered and had all of his shots, which cost more than the adoption fee.

Adopted my cat Ripley from Palisades in cary. $90 fee and that included all but the last round of shots, microchipping, and spaying. I was immensly pleased with them and hope they're still around.

i considered getting these guys microchipped, but was told that unless you make your cats wear collars then people probably aren't going to get them and turn them in... that combined with the fact that these cats freak out everytime they get out and deseperately want back in, i think i'll be okay.

maybe once i'm in gradschool and have more $ i'll go for it, especially since i wont be living in a community where many people would recognize my cats.

Whatever. There's nothing wrong with men owning cats. Some people prefer cats over dogs. Simple as that. For the record, I have two.

I'd recommend getting a cat from the animal shelter. Getting a cat from a rescue organization or the SPCA is like pulling teeth. They'll scrutinize the hell out of you, make you fill out an "adoption form" where you have to list "pet references" and all that. A lot of them will even call your apartment complex (assuming you rent) to make sure they allow cats, and so on. It's a big hassle because all the people involved with rescue organizations are nutty bitches who keep like fifteen cats in their home at all times. I got my first cat from a rescue organization, but I happened to luck out and they didn't give me a hassle. The second cat I just got recently from an animal shelter. There is absolutely no hassle involved. Just pick out a cat, let them verify your information via driver's license, throw down $100 (pretty close to the going rate), and walk out with the cat. Plus, you're saving a cat from the gas chamber.

i adopted two littermates (male and female) from a lady i called in the paper. they were about 9 weeks old and had worms at the time, so I had to take them to the vet the next day and pay about $150 for some tests and worm medicine. but they are the sweetest, most affectionate cats ever. i've even got them trained to give me kisses!

Cats are way easier to take care of, cheaper to keep up, and smaller... that fits alot better into college life than keeping a dog does.

We attempted to adopt from the Durham shelter. Found a cute little kitten that would have been perfect, but after we filled out the paper work, they said we couldn't have her because "we were in college, and college kids move to much." We ended up getting one from a lady in the paper, it was cheaper and no crazy rules.

animal protection society?

yeah, I worked at a boarding kennel at the time and took classes part-time, I would have been able to take the dog with me to work everyday, but because I was a college student they would not let me adopt a 5 year old beagle named parker. I played with him, found a tick on him, told someone about it and they said, oh, you can just pull that right off...he also was not neutered and had huge testicles

wake spca in summer of 2001. $90 but included voucher for spay/neuter

i love my cat. he was a little kitten when i got him. took only a few hours for him to get comfortable in my apt. no problems. no vet bills (other than normal checkups). he's a little fat but hey, that's ok by me.

I adopted Noah from the Wake County SPCA this past summer. It cost me $100-110, but he came neutered and up-to-date on all of his shots. I got him as a companion for my 3 year old cat, who was spending his days at home alone being a lazy bum. My older cat perked right up and the two of them rough and tumble around the house like the best of buddies. It was a wonderful decision.

my fiance just adopted a cat from PEtsmart....$75. so far everything seems good...she lived in a cage her whole life, so she doesn't know how to jump (which can be good or bad) and she doesn't scratch.

She's figured out how to claw now... and she can jump about 6 inches... but usually looses her balance and falls over.

Cat's are the foulest, most disease infested furbags ever invented, they're also a cost problem, you have to pay for them to shit.
