*disclaimer* not to compete with nscutigers thread about finding Bruno & Shayla homes - please help those pups out too!!*I checked out Franklin County Animal Control petfinder list (why... because it always depresses me)and noticed that they have 5 owner-surrendered puppies on there.3 - lab mixes, 2 - lab/sheperd mix - all about 6-8 weeks and absolutely adorable.these would be easy breeds/mixes to find homes. owner-surrendered means that are euthanized immediately. = URGENTand all animals that go into that facility are euthanized within 24 hrs to 5 days on average..Franklin County still gasses their unwanted animals (considered crueler than injection).. takes longer for the animals to go unconcious...i already emailed the rescue group i help out with but i havent heard back as to what space we have.i know many of you on here - nscutiger, odie, kitty b, = many others have big hearts and help out with other rescue orgs in the area. i'm hoping i hear back from my org and get the go ahead to go get them, or someone else doesbut i wanted to bring it to everyone's attention on here.there is also a cute corgi/jack russel mix and a few adult dogs and a siamese cat listedhttp://www.petfinder.org/shelters/NC119.htmlhttp://www.petfinder.org/pet.cgi?action=1&pet.Shelterid=NC119&preview=1

Shit like this just pisses me off. If I wasn't already getting a puppy on Saturday I'd probably do this.

The first question is if someone would be willing to foster them? XCchik do you have foster space available? I work with CARE for Animals and am in close contact with the coordinator. I know that will be her first question. My house is full right now. Please open up your home & foster a pet. All you have to give is love. All expenses are paid in full by the organization. This includes vet bills, food, toys, etc.
2/7/2006 10:26:02 PM
weird the website doesn't list any adoption fees.
2/7/2006 10:33:42 PM
ok. i have a question for those of you who foster. on average, how long do you have an animal for? i would absolutely LOVE to help some of these lil guys out, but i live in an apt with my dog, 2 cats, a hamster, and a fish. so i know already i cant take in another cat (1 litter box is all i have space for), and another dog would be fine as long as it was a puppy (small) that could go in a crate while i was gone.

I so need a dog right nowmore like 3 great for friendship and loyalty, not to mention curing boredom and meeting girlsbut I'm in Atlanta and living in the barracks

2/8/2006 12:03:02 AM
So XCchik & I are going to pick up the 5 puppies! Yeah I know we've lost our minds, right? Anyways we will need help fostering. Just let us know. Even if you can help out temporarily
2/8/2006 12:04:53 AM
you're good people, danielle
2/8/2006 12:22:00 AM
Haha I read the thread as puppies in dire need of retiring
2/8/2006 12:27:30 AM
ughTHERE ARE MORE PUPPIES THAN THERE ARE HOMES FOR THEM. THEY ARE NOT PEOPLE. PUT THE EXTRA ONES DOWN.

2/8/2006 12:27:23 PM
why would you put me down? i have a home. put down the bums.
2/8/2006 12:39:00 PM
ok for the record, what i said sounded pretty cold hearted. i love dogs, and it saddens me that there are more dogs than there are loving homes for them. but really, if these dogs are adopted, that just means that some other dogs aren't going to be adopted somewhere else, and thus the cycle continues.
2/8/2006 12:43:08 PM
i dunno about jen, but danielle lost her mind long, long ago.you're good girls tho^ yeah, it's one of those weird human things. it really is funny that we see the compassion before we see the logic. nonetheless, it's good of them to try to help[Edited on February 8, 2006 at 12:44 PM. Reason : .]

Okay so there are 3 sisters (Murphy, Kelly & Emma) plus another puppy named Dora rescued today. All are black lab mixes. Murphy & Emma have curly hair. Dora is definetly smaller and underweight- she may have some beagle/hound mix in her. All pups are up for adoption. Please either contact XCchik (Danielle) or I for more information about them. Here are some pictures of my two fosters. They are all cute as can be! DoraEmmaTo show the size of them against my hand (they are babies ~6-8wks old)To show the size difference btw. Emma & Dora (I believe Dora will always be smaller, hard to tell how many lbs for either right now though) Note: Puppies will be entering the Best Friends Adoption Program soon. You can either wait and adopt through them or staight though Danielle or I. There will be screening either way to find them the best homes possible. [Edited on February 8, 2006 at 7:57 PM. I will post pics of my 2 tomorow. i left my camera at the office.Murphy looks identical to Emma. she's mellow and likes to lay in your lap.Kelly looks like a full blood black lab (if you hadnt seen her curly haired sisters)she's stocky and goofy.all 3 sisters seem to be in excellent health. no sign of fleas, mites, or worms (i checked stools).they have good weight on them and are all very active and friendly.we think the 3 sisters are a lab/newfoundland or maybe chow. tongues are pink and they look more like a newfie so we think that.probably 40-60 lbs when full grown. i will get the pics up tomorow

Kudos on the rescue! But now Bruno and Shayla have competition skyfallen - Please do apply through an organization. If you want to foster a puppy/small dog, they will work with you. Sound Pet is who I foster through, and I told them my limit is around 40lbs b/c 1) I'm in a relatively small 2BR apt and 2) My 50lb dog is intimidated by dogs her size or larger. We also have a puppy. The fact that you have those animals will help b/c obviously you know how to take care of them.Smath74 - Yes some other dogs elsewhere may not get adopted, but we can't say that's primarily b/c of these puppies being rescued. Sound Pet pulls their rescued dogs/puppies from facilities like the one these two girls rescued from. So you could really say that about any and every rescue and shelter. What should be considered is the fact that all rescued dogs not only are saved from a death that is not their fault, but their previous owner, but are going to be neutered/spayed and won't contribute to future generations.I'd be happy to help foster these puppies when Bruno and Shayla are adopted. Please also check with Sound Pet about taking any in if they have space [if your organization(s) don't have room]. I know they have a couple rescues that have a high interest volume, so they may be able to.If anyone's interested, my links:Bruno: http://www.thewolfweb.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=384793Shayla: http://www.thewolfweb.com/message_topic.aspx?topic=385635Sound Pet: http://www.soundpet.org[Edited on February 8, 2006 at 10:14 PM. ^^It seems a lot of ppl feel similarly. I think I remember comments like that in another foster thread I created about a year ago. I just regretably looked at pics someone was advertising on craigslist, of dogs that were close to getting put down if not rescued, and of course they just happened to be dogs that you really feel are sweet, fun, loving dogs, and it tore at my heart. I wish I could help more. Hopefully in the future when we have a house I'll be able to do so.

are you guys paying for medical needs out of pocket or is a rescue paying for it? Petsound animal hospital would probably cut you a deal to get them treated there. They are awesome about rescues. I take all of my rescues there! good luck and let me know if you need something.

Someone please save the shepard mix pups! They are adorable and will be very adoptable. You can find a rescue org. to fund the vet bills. All you have to do is drive to the Franklin County Animal Control sign your name and write down how many dogs/cats you are taking.
2/12/2006 12:20:29 PM
Do you still need fosters? Let us know? http://www.secondchancenc.orgWe would be glad to take them in as foster babies.

I'll see if Sound Pet can take any of the three pups in, and if so I'd be willing to help pick them up.

is the female lab/chow still available? I'm going on vacation next week, but I can take her after that
2/13/2006 9:21:13 AM
Sound Pet generally takes in the dogs that other rescues don't want, such as Bruno and his sister, who both had skin problems, and an Australian shepherd that needed a leg amputation. They also take dogs that are due to be gassed or past their gas date. They work with Franklin Co. pretty closely, and doing a dog run tomorrow. So that's very fortunate.I'm sure they're looking it over skyfallen - they've been busy ever since I started plugging them, and they're also working on meetings between potential adopters and current dogs. Bruno has one tomorrow, so hopefully he'll have a good home soon!

These people who let the dogs have the puppies and then turn right around and give them to a shelter should not be allowed to have pets.

Someone foster these cuties! http://www.petfinder.org/pet.cgi?action=2&pet=5848167&adTarget=&SessionID=440286407c050dc9-app5&display=&preview=1&row=0&tmpl=&stat=Just so you know... "Franklin County’s animal control facility (located at the county landfill between Louisburg and Youngsville) was originally designed as a rabies control facility rather than a shelter. Consequently, it does not have the resources to provide long-term care for dogs and cats. Stray dogs and cats are kept at the facility for a minimum of three days prior to euthanasia, while owner-surrendered animals may be (but are not always) euthanized immediately. Therefore, these animals do not have much time once they are at the facility. Further, the aging facility employs a gas chamber to euthanize animals. While the use of gas chambers is legal in North Carolina, it is not the method of euthanasia recommended by most humane organizations and veterinarians for destruction of tame/friendly dogs and cats".
