IMO only two are locks right now, Duke, State; unc should be in after tonight barring a collapsebeyond that I don't really think maryland or boston college deserves a bid, but at least one will get in due to pre season hype and ACC swingmaryland's only quality win is against BC, BC's only quality win is at UNC but they seem to be getting mad props for losing at home this weekgut tells me one of the two, and I'd say BC despite the tiebreaker
2/3/2006 12:11:12 AM
BC is in, I don't know why, just trust me.
2/3/2006 12:12:43 AM
yea thats pretty much my reasoning too, most of the espn experts still have them in their power 16 for some reason
2/3/2006 12:13:16 AM
boston college is a good team, maybe not sweet 16 good, but they're experienced and will definitely end strong
2/3/2006 12:13:32 AM
personally I'd rather just three teams made itjust to remind the ACC where the heart of it's power rests, tobacco road
2/3/2006 12:31:24 AM
right now,Duke, NCSU, BC, UNC, maybe maryland
2/3/2006 12:38:54 AM
if miami keeps it up, they'll go.
2/3/2006 12:40:06 AM
Miami really needs to beat us or Duke at some point I think, if they want a shot
2/3/2006 12:46:10 AM
lol virginia.
2/3/2006 12:56:53 AM
12- best conference evar!1
2/3/2006 1:00:02 AM
Duke, State, UNC, Boston College, Maryland
2/3/2006 8:09:33 AM
Maryland is close to not going...they got smoked by Temple (and I know we got wacked by Seton Hall but if we don't slide in conference we will be okay.)Heres how I see it:IN: Duke, NCSU, BCPROB: Miami, UNCPOSS: UMD, UVA, VTOUT: Wake, GT, FSU, Clem
2/3/2006 8:13:22 AM
IN: Duke, NCSU, BC, UNCPROB: Miami POSS: UMD, UVA OUT: Wake, GT, FSU, Clem, VT

(As Of February 2) School Conf. Pct. Overall Pct. Duke 8-0 1.000 20-1 .952 NC State 6-2 .750 17-4 .810 Miami 5-3 .625 13-8 .619 North Carolina 4-3 .571 13-5 .722 Maryland 4-3 .571 14-6 .700 Boston College 4-4 .500 16-5 .762 Florida State 4-4 .500 13-5 .722 Virginia 4-4 .500 10-8 .556 Clemson 3-5 .375 14-7 .667 Virginia Tech 2-6 .250 12-9 .571 Georgia Tech 2-6 .250 9-10 .474 Wake Forest 1-7 .125 12-9 .571 imho these teams will be the ones that make it to the NCAA. All of them only need 6 wins or less to get to the 20 win threshold (Duke is already there and State is almost there). Florida State and UNC could suprise me, but even with the win last night UNC looked very sloppy. Playing any other ACC team like that (20+ turnovers) will get you a loss (barring another officiating nightmare). Florida State needs to really turn on the power and get moving but can still reach 20 wins with a strong second half performance. We'll see....
2/3/2006 8:37:43 AM
^ replace Clemson with UNC and you have my picks to make it out the ACC, i dont see them finsihing strong
2/3/2006 8:40:27 AM
^^ Clempson? Seriously?I think any team that can finish at or above .500 in conference and win an ACC tourney game would be likely to make it. Duke, State, BC and of course UNC are locks at this point.
2/3/2006 9:18:24 AM
2/3/2006 9:26:14 AM
Duke, NCSU, BC are locks. UNC is close. Then Miami and Clemson, yes Clemson, I think they will make it over Maryland. FSU and Virginia have a chance. Both Tech's and Wake have to win the ACC tournament.
2/3/2006 11:10:38 AM
Yeah, I predict 5 teams will make it: Duke, State, BC are locks, imo, and the other two are a toss up between the rest of the pack excluding VT, GT, and Wake.
2/3/2006 11:13:42 AM
Anyone who thinks Clemson is even close to going is a moron.THEY LOST TO FUCKING ELON YES, ELON (who is all of 10-11) Their best wins are Florida State & South Carolina. You are out of your mind if you think they are even remotely close right now.
2/3/2006 11:33:14 AM
^They are 14-6. If they finish .500 in the ACC, they are going.
2/3/2006 11:45:45 AM
8-8 gets u in unless u had a non conference record like VT last year.
2/3/2006 11:47:13 AM
Yeah, they're 4-4 on the front end of the ACC schedule, and should have no problems going 5-3 on the back end.
2/3/2006 11:51:09 AM
will the ACC have a strong showing in the NIT perhaps?
2/3/2006 1:05:37 PM
Remember when we talked about how good we were doing in the NIT? Yeah those days have been over.
2/3/2006 1:07:03 PM
yea, im just saying, if some of these "bubble" teams in the ACC don't make the NCAA, they may SWEEP the NIT.just a thought.
2/3/2006 1:10:59 PM
Duke wont make it!
2/3/2006 1:13:58 PM
2/3/2006 2:14:45 PM
2/3/2006 2:17:20 PM
UNC has 9 games left. 5 at home and 4 on the road. I can see them realistically going 6-3 maybe even 7-2 over that stretch. Duke and UNC always seem to play close games, no matter their respective rankings. So they could realistically be 10-6 in the conference.
2/3/2006 2:20:37 PM
6 teams
2/3/2006 2:27:46 PM
I'd say:In: Duke, NCSU, BCProbable: UNC, MarylandPossible: Miami, Clemson, FSUOut: UVA, VT, Wake, GaTech
2/3/2006 2:27:51 PM
id put miami ahead of umd
2/3/2006 2:32:35 PM
I don't think the .500 ACC record trend is going to survive this year. In: Duke, NCSU, UNCProbable: BCPossible: Maryland, MiamiOut: UVA, WFU, VT, GaTech, Clemson
2/3/2006 3:02:39 PM
I say 6 will get in.NCSU, DUKE, UNC, MARYLAND,BC, MIAMImiami being the last one in. This could actually be any of the following teams: virginia, florida state, and clemson.[Edited on February 3, 2006 at 3:06 PM. Reason : asf]
2/3/2006 3:04:57 PM
5 or 6 teams...
2/3/2006 3:06:17 PM
Getting 8 ACC wins isn't a lock. You still need at least 1 tourney win & a decent OOC. Clemson's OOC & rpi are pretty bad, so even if Clemson finishes 8-8, they still need to probably win in the 1st round & quaterfinals to get in. Ditto with Virginia. Same goes for Miami & FSU, except they may only need 1 ACC tourney win if they finish 8-8, because their OOC isn't as bad as CU & UVA. 9 ACC wins (incl. tourney) is generally a lock, but with some of their OOC's, they need 10.As of now Duke, Us, BC, & UNC are pretty solid, Miami & Maryland are right on the bubble, & Virginia, FSU, & Clemson needing to improve. So mostly, we'll send 6. Possibly 7, but unlikely.[Edited on February 3, 2006 at 4:30 PM. Reason : ]

Jesus christ, you people keep picking BCTHAT'S WHY THEY ARE FUCKING OVERRATED.PLEASE TELL ME WHAT QUALITY WINS BC WILL PULL OFF IN THE ACCTHAT'S RIGHT - NONE.THEY HAD IT EASY IN THE BIG LEAST LAST YEAR, AND COULDN'T STAND UP TO THE REST OF THE ACC (MIAMI AND VT INCLUDED) IF WE ALL FIELDED TEAMS FROM RESPECTIVE SCHOOL'S INTRAMURAL TEAMSBOSTON COLLEGE IS ONE OF THE WORST BASKETBALL TEAMS IN THE COUNTRY.[Edited on February 3, 2006 at 8:14 PM. 2/3/2006 8:14:13 PM
if they're so bad then they'll get exposed by the end of the season...just like UVA was a few years ago when the pollsters absolutely refused to drop them out of the top 10...
2/3/2006 9:41:08 PM
IN-> Duke, NCSU, BC(barring an absolute disaster)after that it gets interesting...i'd say unc is an obvious choice given who they are but their schedule is brutal...vs duke, @duke, @ncsu, @miami, @wake...if they go 5-4, which is reasonable, they are 18-9 and definitely inmaryland i think will sneak in...the schedule is somewhat favorable...if they finish 20-9 they are in, if they finish 19-10 they are probably in tooI think that is probably it...there are some teams with some outside shots i would saymiami probably has to win 6of8 to get to 19-10, due to all the poor losses out of conference. its not gonna happen, they are outclemson has a better shot i would dare to say....at 14-6, they probably need 20 wins, but could sneak in with 19 if one of their wins is @unc or @bc. keep an eye on them but dont hold your breathflorida state is being very quiet, and thats part of the problem. they need 7 wins, or 6 wins with one of them being duke[Edited on February 3, 2006 at 11:15 PM. Sad, as I much as I miss the Big Four ACC, Go ACC!!! Miami has has a men's b-ball team..?

2/4/2006 4:01:04 PM
I don't think there's ever been a rule stating that. I think it's just a rule of thumb the selection committee tries to use for placing teams in their respective brackets.
2/4/2006 4:05:31 PM
I think it will be Duke, NC State, UNC, Miami, Boston College, and Fla. State. They played really well today and the record is all right, I think they will get some wins in the second half of ACC.
