Hi all. Does anyone know where I can find either fresh or that "flash frozen" tuna INTENDED FOR SUSHI? I'm not looking for frozen tuna steaks.... I want to eat it raw sashimi/nigiri style.I tried the seafood shop @farmers market, some nicer grocery stores, etc. I guess I could order it online from somplace like here http://www.sushifoods.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=12104&Category_Code=SS-TUNA&Product_Count=2 but it seems expensive and well, just "shady"

^ I can attest for.I have eaten it seared about 15 seconds per side on many occasions. This gives about an inch of raw meat in the middle, and I nor anyone I have cooked for has never had a problem with it.[Edited on January 30, 2006 at 10:12 AM. Reason : e]

you can eat fresh tuna raw, and its actually better like that.Only health risks associated with eating fresh tuna is the Mercury content.
1/30/2006 10:16:57 AM
is cooked mercury not as bad for you?
1/30/2006 10:54:52 AM
actually it's not. cooking the meat destroys the protien structure surrounding the mercury, thereby making it harder for the human body to absorb the mercury through digestion. the majority of mercury in cooked fish passes right through, while the majority of mercury in uncooked fish is absorbed into your system.
