has anybody ever seen anybody in the acc get this called OTHER than state???over the last few years i have seen state get the call about 6 times and NEVER seen anyone else get it despite similar dunking actions.

i agree....it was a bad call and will probably cost us the game. it totally swung the momentum around and they were able to make their free throws. if he lets go any earlier, he lands on his back stupid ref!

1/29/2006 4:02:56 PM
just saw that on DVR and that was quite possibly the most rediculous call ever, if he lets go he lands on his head. Fuck ACC refs. Mike Wood can suck a cock.[Edited on January 29, 2006 at 4:12 PM. Reason : .]
1/29/2006 4:12:28 PM
Haha.. Shelden Williams does it far worse litteraly EVERY game.. He swings like an ape and I don't think I've ever seen him called for a T..
1/29/2006 4:21:48 PM
Halo, put the Fells missed dunk on the internet please
1/29/2006 4:23:00 PM
patrick ewing got called for one back when i was in third gradebut somebody fell down under the rimah the good old days
1/29/2006 4:23:03 PM
^^^ Well with Dook written across your chest it automatic that you don't make mistakes or should receive techs[Edited on January 29, 2006 at 4:26 PM. Reason : .]
1/29/2006 4:26:12 PM
Don't forget Haywood, he spent the better part of his career doing chin-ups. Usually two for every dunk. But no, most rediculous call ever had to be tech on us against maryland in acc tourney for wiping up sweat.[Edited on January 29, 2006 at 4:28 PM. Reason : <more>]

Agree. . .and it's ridiculousyou're in college for fuck's sake. Learn to spell.

the refs were horrible and yes i agree that the call for the technical for hanging was one of the worst ones i had ever seen in my lifebut i think it kind of sparked bennerman to have the performance he did down the line
1/29/2006 5:06:57 PM
it might have been the fact that he tapped the backboard on the way down.however, I still think it was a bad call, although I saw it coming.[Edited on January 29, 2006 at 5:09 PM. Reason : afe]
1/29/2006 5:09:36 PM
he did not tap the backboard on the way down, because I made sure of it on the replay. If he did, then I'm blind, and he's just a dumbass.
1/29/2006 5:11:42 PM
It's a little deeper rooted than everyone knows. Mike wood has had it for Bennerman for a while now, see Chapel Hill stare down. Bennerman likes to glide through the air on his dunks. As a result when he grabs the rim, his arms stop moving, but his feet keep moving. Mike Wood should have seen it as a safety measure, but didn't. He likely thought Bennerman was trying to showboat by flying through the air. Mike Wood is awful and should be reprimanded.[Edited on January 29, 2006 at 5:24 PM. Reason : sp]

^omg, yea
1/29/2006 5:30:32 PM
^^who was that?
1/29/2006 5:33:14 PM
yet Coach K can slam a chair in place during the UVA game, I am sure if it had been any other coach it would have been a tech
1/29/2006 5:34:15 PM
bad callbennerman had too much behind him not to hang on itif he hadn't he would have landed on his backi'm thinking it was the fact that he looked over at the official with the "am i going to get away with it" look that got the call
1/29/2006 5:35:24 PM
ohhh and that was Houston Cougars coach Tom Penders that got the technical for his heart condition.http://www.stltoday.com/blogs/sports-tipsheet/2006/01/the-death-of-common-sense/
1/29/2006 5:36:35 PM
aaah, the conspiracty against State
1/29/2006 6:26:34 PM
I was watching the clip of the heat game today and noticed Shaq hangs on the rim every time 1-2 seconds longer then bennerman did today
1/29/2006 10:04:38 PM
Does the NBA even have a technical foul rule about that?
1/29/2006 10:08:09 PM
That's the NBA, B.Plus, if Shaq falls on anyone, they'll die.
1/29/2006 10:08:31 PM
some people are saying that Bennerman touched the backboard on his way down. stupid rule but it wouldn't be the first time we got called for it
1/29/2006 10:09:48 PM
you're allowed to do a backflip off the rim in the nba if you want to. there is no rule about that
1/29/2006 10:10:27 PM
^^ Yeh it wasn't really a tap board like Julius did back in the day, it was more to steady himself. He definitely did touch the backboard, I just don't know how to classify the touch.
1/29/2006 10:22:49 PM
eh I always thought it was an equipment/safety issue but if they are letting much bigger nba guys do it then I guess not
1/29/2006 10:27:50 PM
i think it's an anti-showboating thing.
1/29/2006 10:30:57 PM
yea ur prob right, I'll never forget when Garnett dunked over Brad Miller and then hung his crotch right in his face
1/29/2006 10:31:55 PM
sean dockery slaps the board every time he dunks it
1/29/2006 10:34:47 PM
Bennerman touched the backboard on his way down:
1/29/2006 11:52:12 PM
^ there was no intent of showboating, cremmens and the other announcer agreed that we were screwed over by that call
1/29/2006 11:54:46 PM
you cant touch the board, its in the rules, you people got angry for nothingyes dockery does do it alot, but thats duke, the rules are skewed (see moving screen)
1/30/2006 6:11:14 AM
1/30/2006 9:15:19 AM
Yes, he did hit the board.Mike Wood is still a douche.
1/30/2006 9:15:57 AM
you can touch the backboard, you cant pull up or hang on the rim. If you couldnt touch the board then there would be a tech everytime someone slaps board on a layup.

Address your comments to:John Clougherty Basketball Officials, CoordinatorAtlantic Coast Conference P.O. Drawer ACCGreensboro, NC27417-6724Phone: (336) 854-8787I left him a voicemail asking that he review the play. I also requested that Mike Wood be informed of his findings.

The rules in question:
1/30/2006 9:28:47 AM
the only time you can't touch the backboard is when the ball is near the goal in a downward motion for goaltending. that's it.^and what he said...[Edited on January 30, 2006 at 9:31 AM. Reason : too slow]
1/30/2006 9:30:03 AM
I was there, and in the heat of the moment, it looked like showboating to me. I haven't seen the replay or anything, but would have been the right call 5 min into the game. But I wouldn't like to see that call made down the streach like that.
