so earlier this evening i locked my keys in my room. my door has 15 glass pane in them and we broke one of them out so i could unlock it. i figured replacing the pane would be less expensive than calling a locksmith. any idea how much this'll cost me to replace or if i can do it myself?

piece of glass will cost you about $5-$10 - you can get one custom cut at Home depot or Lowescaulking probably $2-$3 ... ask someone what kind you needI recommend getting a putting knife or something like it ... $1You'll also need a straight razor to cut away the old caulking so you can get the broken glass out. All said you'll spend $10-$20, and it'll take an hour or less.

lowes glass is very thin and very fragile. i wouldn't get it there.i'd suggest taking a piece of the broken stuff to a glass shop and asking them to match it.the "caulking" you want is actually called window glaze. you'll also want some window pane clips (not sure of their official name). they are little metal clips that you press into the wood to hold the glass against the back stop, then glaze over them.

i'm sure its a rental property. who the fuck cares if its thin glass

thin glass will break easier if you just bump into it. also will break easier if someone wants to break into your placealso won't be as energy efficient in terms of heating and cooling bills, which is something that is usually important to all students.and, if that pane is noticably thinner or otherwise different than the others, then they could lose their security deposit when they move out.
