I have a Yamaha HTR-5860 reciever and tonight I went to turn on the radio and I can't pick up any channels. It worked just a couple days ago. The rest of the functions are working (ie dvr and dvd connections still work). I just can't get an radio stations.so my question to you is what could have broke and is it worth fixing. It's still under warranty but I have lost the reciept I believe. I purchased about 1.5 yrs ago. Also is this a sign that the rest of the reciever is going?

Before you go sending this in for repair make sure your antenna is connected properly. Also, check reception with the 'auto tune' feature turned off.Oh, and it's worth repair, and this doesn't mean the whole unit will fail you.

worst case scenario get a 5 dollar pocket radio and a y adapter, plug it into the reciever and profit

yeah the antenna was/is hooked up fine. nothing had moved.I've tried with manual tune mode as well. reset the unit to factory defualts and everything. I think I've found a place where I can a new am/fm tuner for it but it's around $50

I took it apart today. It looks like the tuner is a self-contained part with the antenna hooks up and a ribbon cable connecting it to the rest of the reciever.I'm going to call yamaha customer support and see if they can help me diagnois the issue. I know I verified the part numbers with the only part company I found and they match so I know if it's it then it will cost $50 to fix

Sounds like you're going about the repair in the right way, and 50 bucks isn't too bad to restore all functionality for you. Good luck.

hell I can't scrap a $500 reciever over the radio not working. I was just debating whether or not to just get a walkman and an adapter but I figured it was better to pay the money so I don't have to get up everytime I want to change the channel[Edited on January 30, 2006 at 6:08 PM.
