$1850/mo ??? That's more than the mortgage + utilities + insurance on the house I'm in right now... by a factor of like 2. Though I suppose it's hard to actually buy a house that close to campus. It seems to me like it'd be better to buy a house for that kind of money and rent out any extra rooms.

Yes, that's the house. 2704 Vanderbilt. The outside isn't impressive, but it's beautiful inside. I'll take some pictures today - we've renovated. In fact, the house is offered for sale - $375,000. If you were to buy this house, payments would be about $2800. The location that makes this house expensive. You can throw a rock from the front yard into campus. Well, that and the fact that the house is LARGE: 2100 square feet plus a finished attic and basement. Are you renting a house with 4 bedrooms for $900/ mo including utilities? "Fool the college kids"? Funny! No point in trying to fool anybody! That would only waste my time: showing the house to people that are expecting something else. I'm having an open house next Sunday 1-3. You're all welcome come and see if my description is accurate.

Tried to take some pics, but my camera lens isn't wide-angle enough for good pics. The only ones that came out OK were the living room and dining room. The BR pics only show the color of the walls.Ignore the ladders - we're still painting the hall.Diningroom - walls are not really mottled, it's a bad pic.

Yea the real estate values inside the beltline, especially around campus, are rediculous.I have now lived in three houses within 2 miles of this one. All three needed 50-150 thousand in basic maintenance just to really be considered in livable condition. They all had horrible electrical, plumbing, heating and cooling. Not to say this one is the same, but it looks to be from about the same time period. They are wonderful places to live for college students, but there is absolutely no way in hell any of these places are worth what they are asking for them.

yes they are worth what they are asking for themthey are worth whatever people will pay

is this the house where the owners make you do bible study with them on certain nights and don't allow "mixed company" to spend the night?

I live much closer to campus than that house and pay nearly half. What a rip.

How much do utilities usually run? What are the possibilties for a 5th or 6th bedroom? What are the lease requirements? like a full year vs school year
1/26/2006 12:23:29 AM
No bible study required. As for "mixed company", my favorite group so far had 2 girls and 2 guys interested in occupying the 4 bedrooms. Dingbat - I'd love to read some specifics. Address / how much $ / how many BR / how much living space? If my pricing isn't reasonable, I want to know.As for 5th or 6th BR, let me show you the house. Utilities - about $75-100 electric, and $150 for natural gas, depending where you set the thermostat. Cable - $13-80 depending on service. Lease runs summer - summer. Beyond that, I'm flexible.
