I am wondering if my dog would be disqualified in an AKC dog show for his floating rib. I know that it is attached to some muscle....through tendons? But Google really hasn't been able to help me.

Thanks.

Everything about this dog is perfect....infact, if he were a man- he'd be a model- and just wear clothes to cover up his floating rib.

i am not sure why floating ribs would be a problem, i mean we all have them.

floating ribs are called such because unlike "true" ribs, the attach through cartilage to the rib above them instead of to the sterum/breast bone. They have intercostal muscles between them just like every other rib in the body. again, this is humans, but I don't really see why it would be anything much different in a dog

thanks- great info (more than google)

i have an american bulldog and he has a floating rib. It wouldn't bother me except we were thinking about studding him and maybe showing him (but i don't really have the motivation to show him).

Anyway- it protrudes out from his rib cage and it looks like there is a golf ball lodged under his skin. I guess I am mainly inquiring about the cosmetic problems with this.

if you have an akc related question chances are you will find an answer on the AKC site faster than on TWW

the rib might not disqualify him, but a dog without the rib will place higher

its an asthetics thing
