OK so Pieng and I have our own house now and we're getting Directv and i ordered a DVR for it, says it needs a landline (i don't have one, and am not going to get one since I live off my cell.) I'm looking at these adapters http://communications.rca.com/en-US/ModelDetail.html?MN=23200RE3 and http://www.omnicellonline.com/id9.html does anyone know if the modem signal from the directv would have any problems going through one of these? I have a verizon cell by the way. Thanks

i dunno, but i understand that type of thing doesn't work well with voip services like vonage, so i'd say you'd need to ask them.

i thought the only reason you needed a landline was so they could charge you when you order moviesjust dont order movies

it said that DVR had to have one... i guess in order to d/l program guides... my grandmother has a dvr and it doesn't use it but I was just looking into options just incase

I've got a DirecTV Tivo at my place in Atlanta where I also have Vonage for my phone service. Data calls don't work well through VoIP, and my Tivo hasn't successfully made a call in over a year. It just sends me a "message" every day saying that it hasn't made a call. There's no need to worry about it, since the DirecTV DVRs get their information directly from the satellites. Like ^ up there said, it's only for when you order movies. If you never hook it up to a phone line you can get free movies (I did this once last year and never received a bill for it)

yeah a few years ago my family had Direct and didn't hook it up to the phone. we watched like 15-20 movies for free but it stopped letting us order movies b/c the purchase list was too big
