Do you think the paper will be graded really hard as to whether you said what he wanted you to say or not? Or will he grade it on how well thought out the paper was? I am kind of confused about the paper....any help is appreciated!!

if this class is w/ slatta follow his guidelines on his papers and you will do fine. there isnt one certain thing he wants you to say, but he wants you to use the primary sources to write a good history paper. by that i mean integrate numerous quotes, organize the paper, and dont use passive verbs.everything he wants in terms of your papers is on his site, and there should be parts to show you how to do what he wants.

Thanks alot! I really appreciate it! Though I do find some of his prompts and instructions a tad confusing... is it ok just to assume that the articles he gives talk about what he wants you to write about?

Am I the only person shocked by the fact there were no A's on the paper, in either section he teaches? Also how were your grades on the first few discussion postings? I felt as though I had done a very good job on my posts and my grades don't seem to reflect that.

I find that very suprising to hear from a history alumn Gizmo... I looked up his grade distributions and they aren't bad. I also have heard very good things about him in his student reviews. Does anyone know if he curves?[Edited on February 7, 2006 at 11:40 PM. Reason : they]

I'm taking it as well and was surprised by the discussion grades. I got a 5 on the second discussion. According to the rubric, I have "seemingly no understanding of nor engagement with the issues." (Slatta, HI 216 website, p. 11) His website is incredibly confusing and poorly structured. I give him a C, just like my paper.

how does this class compare to other online classes? I was thinking about taking it online next semester, but I didn't know if I would just be better off in the actual classroom.

If you were planning on taking it with Slatta, you would probably be better off in the classroom. DO NOT take his class if you aren't prepared to do a lot of challenging work. There is no easy way to just get by in his class.
