1/18/2006 11:08:29 PM
Don't worry, we're all nice and informative in here!!!

Wear a short skirt to the interview, and drop something and pick it up in front of the interviewer.Even if it's a woman. Especially if it's a woman

they'll probably give you hypothetical scenarios such as you caught students doing something they shouldnt, like drinking and then ask you how you would handle the situation.treat it like any other interview, and prepare to answer questions like what are your strengths, weaknesses, an achievement you are proud of, a failure and how you dealt with it, why you feel you can do the job. blah blah blahjust some thoughts, dont know how much it'll help
1/18/2006 11:25:50 PM
Under no circumstances admit you post on TWW.

1/18/2006 11:36:07 PM
don't be too hard on students in the hypothetical situations, they do like to give some second chances
1/18/2006 11:44:44 PM

1/18/2006 11:56:50 PM

its not really anything to worry aboutjust be your normal self and use common sense
1/19/2006 7:59:26 AM
They'll probably ask you how you feel about the recent Amanda Bostian(sp?)/Paul Cousins incident.
1/19/2006 9:59:58 AM

I was an RA the past few years, and I went thru 3 years of interviews (1 as interviewee, 2 as interviewer). the best I can say is to be yourself (yeah I know, cliched). But seriously, just because you're a good leader/student doesn't mean you'll be what they're looking for. RDs often have a specific type of person in mind for the job, especially how well they may click with returning staff. Case in point, my roommate freshman year would have been a really awesome RA, but was turned down because she probably wasn't what anyone was specifically looking for. Besides that, highlight what makes you unique, but at the same time the most important things an RA needs to be are: 1) plays well with others 2) can communicate ideas effectively 3) the ability to have someone trust and respect the role you have
1/19/2006 10:54:55 AM
Sometimes they'll ask questions about prioritization such as: "Somebody is smoking marijuana in a dorm room, but at the same time, down the hall, you learn that a resident has fallen out of his bunk bed and his head is bleeding-- What do you do?"
1/19/2006 11:03:22 AM
aw come on, that was a really stupid question
1/19/2006 12:23:22 PM
1/19/2006 12:32:03 PM
tell em you are on facebook and good at finding pictures of underage drinkers.
1/19/2006 12:32:05 PM
^^ lol
1/19/2006 12:54:55 PM
1) look at student's head, decide to call EMS or not, usually a good idea anyway cause of potential internal bleeding . health > drug offense in my opinion 2) call back up RAs/on call RDs for both situations. direct them to pot room and to help you with head injury.3) other RA goes to document pot. usually people smoking in the dorm are going to stay put for at least those 5 minutes. 4) EMS/police come for head injury. at least 1 cop can verify the pot smoking and deal with that. 5) mountains of paperwork

I used to be an RA and went thru 30948390 interviews on both sides of the interview.Be prepared for the "generic" interview questions:tell us a little about yourselfStrengths/weaknesseswhat do you do in spare time?then a lot of situational things... would you right up a friend?etc etc...be honest.. it was obvious when we had people bullshittin us and they def. didn't get a job

being a RA? who would want to do that [Edited on January 19, 2006 at 9:55 PM. Reason : 9iuhn]
1/19/2006 9:54:52 PM
why wouldnt you want to...you get a free double room....free meals...500 board bucks...and a small paycheck....not to mention it would help my parents out a lot since both me and my sister will be here next year.
1/20/2006 9:59:46 PM
^ there are a lot of snotty rich kids that feel they are above paying for or working off any part of going to college. nothing wrong with being an RA if it saves money.[Edited on January 20, 2006 at 10:16 PM. Reason : ]
1/20/2006 10:16:13 PM
well i mean i'm not a "snotty" rich kid and i dont think ppl are above helping their parents out...my dad has two businesses...i have a bmw...and we still need help paying for college esp. w/ my sis. coming...i think this is a great way for anybody to help their parents out if their parents are paying.
