A few nights ago , someone accidently knocked a bottle of sprite that wasn't full onto the keyboard of my laptop. I unplugged the adaptor from my laptop and remove the battery. Now I know for a laptop to work is to detach its hardrive and allow warm tap water to run over the sticky part of my hardriveDoes anyone know how to detach a hardrive from a laptop

sooo...as long as water didnt get INSIDE your harddrive...you should be ok...and you can just wipe the outside off with a slightly damp rag...but if sprite got inside your laptop anywhere else, you could be screwed.what kind of laptop do you have? Mose have a latch that allows you to pull the hdd right out.[Edited on January 17, 2006 at 9:45 AM. Reason : .]

just yank it out. make sure the tap water gets all the sticky off. you might even submerge it in the sink for good measure. you should be fine since the sprite was not full. laptops are designed for half empty sprite bottles to be knockde onto them. and don't backup, you could lose your data.

IF you spilled Sprite on the keyboard of your laptop, cleaning the sticky residue off your hard drive should be near the bottom of your list. Removing the HDD generally consists of removing one screw and sliding the HDD out. I also would NOT run it under warm water...take a paper towel and dampen it enough that you can wipe the sticky residue off the HDD.The problem is that the mother board is directly underneath the keyboard and more than likely some of the Sprite got onto the motherboard. Was the laptop on when it happened? You didn't immediately try to turn it on did you? If you got lucky maybe your keyboard tray caught most of the Sprite...if not, then you might have fried your motherboard. Do a google search for your laptop model and see if you can find out how to take off the keyboard, etc. so that you can get a good look at the motherboard. Look for burnt marks or corrosion where the spill happened.

yes it was on when it happen . I had similar experiences a while back . I accidently spill sprite on top of my computer , but my computer function fine , well at least for three months. It is a Dell Inspiron laptop . My question is , could I save hundreds of dollars by simply replacing my hardrive or revitalizing the hardrive that is sticky?

i seriously doubt any problems with your harddrive.. in most cases, the thing that fails on drink spills are the keyboard.. which on dells are somewhat easy to replace. if you turned the laptop off as soon as it happened, then damage to other components is minimal.

Wouldn't it be amazing if this thread were about memory leaks and boundary errors in a 2d video game?[Edited on January 17, 2006 at 9:22 PM. Reason : asdf]
