the most glaring problem is they fucking changed the way the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles graphic looks.

This looks like some Sam's Club brand Turtles

Some cgi used in a supplemental way isn't bad, and can enhance special effects a little bit. But what the hell ever happened to good old-fashioned costumes and puppeteering?

Why does everything have to be completely cgi ala Final Fantasy and the Star Wars movies (they might as well have been, anyway)?

they've been talking about this forever

it was supposed to be real dark and gritty and john woo was gonna do it

but the logo and "for licensing opportunities contact 4kids entertainment" lead me to believe otherwise

OK, out of random curiosity, how many of you actually read the ORIGINAL Eastman and Laird TMNT books?

it'll probably be like the garfield movie. One endless stream of product placement that pays for the movie to be made, even if it does shitty at the box office.

i've got some graphic novels of the original comic stuff...

i was stunned when i watched the new cartoons and saw how they matched up closer to the original storylines...

i guess the new movie will probably be along the same lines

They were pretty violent for their day and even used some salty language here and there. There was quite a bit of blood and the turtles didn't hesitate to kill Foot Clan minions. The first TMNT movie was loosely based on the 1st and 4th graphic novels, but they really "kiddied" it down a LONG way. In the first book, Shredder was completely run through by Leonardo and even drew a grenade in an attempt to kill the turtles after he was "fatally" wounded.

The recent cartoon does draw a few elements from the original works as well (i.e. Triceratons and Fugutoid). Still, though, it's not even remotely as violent.

Seeing this image reminds me just slightly of what the turtles looked like when they first appeared. They were pretty squat, actually - maybe about 4 feet tall. And they all wore red, too (when the books were colorized, that is). It was badassed.
