you probably need more than just 3 hoursi doubt an intro class counts as proficient[Edited on January 13, 2006 at 12:50 AM. Reason : email your adviser durrr]

usually to earn proficiency you have to get up to the 201 level...so probably one more year of farsi will do it...which kinda sucks for you but talk to your advisor.

do you even have an advisor?

^^ The university's proficiency is to the 102 level. Many majors on campus have this same language requirement. These majors are usually in the sciences. Some majors go to the 201 level. English degrees go to the 202 level. The BLS degree only goes to the 102 level. When you click on that For. Lang.co-req. it should be pulling up FL classes to the 102 level and mention something about high school proficiency. If you only have one semester of farsi, that is not enough to meet the requirement. You would need two semesters. But let me ask this- how much foreign language did you have in high school? If you had two years of the same for. language with Bs or better or three years with Cs or better, you will have 102 proficiency. Hope this reduces your anxiety. If not, let me know.

^^Unless its accidentally floating around somewhere else on the degree audit, I'm with Omar ... this is something that should have been caught long ago by an advisor. Go to your advisor and see if it is floating around / a manual substitution is needed.^ To backup what wolfeee said:Go here: http://ncstateundergradadmissions.custhelp.com/ . if my degree audit says i need a 201 level FL, can i take a placement exam and place out of it or do i need to take the actual course

spanish 201 is what i did for my foriegn language proficiency.the intro level language classes I had like greek 101 and spanish 101 don't even count as hours I believe, spanish 102 counted as hours but didn't meet the proficiency requirement, and spanish 201 was the only one to met the req and count as hours. It is kind of deceptive to have a 3 hour language requirement listed on degree audit, but then when you do further research you see the coreqs actually requires 9 hours of a foreign language unless you do a placement exam. Although I tried the placement exam and placed into fls 110, but it was to fast paced since I was away from any spanish for several years so I dropped it and went the 101, 102, 201 standard route.

thanks for the help. i just went to the bls dept. yeah pretty much i gotta take farsi level 2. but good thing is that i can take it for credit which is good cuz i have more important classes.bad thing is that its at 4:30-5:20 M-W-F. which messes my work schedule up. but oh well, i gotta graduate

atleast it doesn't take you to the 3 level language class... 201s you have to do for a grade. i passed spanish 201 as much on the good graces of my professor as my knowledge of the subject.
