I just watched the highlights from the NCSU/BC game tonight. ESPN showed mostly BC highlights, although we won by 18. BC played HORRIBLY tonight...but they're still getting the love and exposure on national TV.
1/10/2006 11:35:07 PM
because we play boring basketball
1/10/2006 11:36:03 PM
i wish they would never mention NCSUthat way threads like this would never spring up
1/10/2006 11:36:50 PM
What they did was try and make the game seem competitive. They showed highlights to imply we came out hot. Showed highlights to imply BC coming back. And then showed highlights to imply us pulling away.
1/10/2006 11:37:06 PM
pi master is correctstop your whining
1/10/2006 11:37:38 PM
can we stop this....seriously....we just got blown out by a young tarhole team and beat an overrated BC team and we still think we deserve respect....if we keep winning, we'll get the respect...why dont you people understand that? We're the red headed stepchild to Duke and UNC...deal with it.
1/10/2006 11:38:21 PM
always the victim...
1/10/2006 11:38:37 PM
i'm surprised they showed our highlights before the unc highlights
1/10/2006 11:38:51 PM
yeah at least we're not Savannah State...I guess any love is good loveRemember, half of ESPN is ran by UNC grads...serious.

considering Stu does like 90% of sportscenter is why I said that, sarcastically of course. But one UNC grad in a company is one too fxcking many.
1/11/2006 2:11:39 AM
Just for kicks, how would you all feel if there was at least one NC State grad working for ESPN and was on TV on a regular basis?
1/11/2006 2:16:07 AM
Terry Gannon is with ABC / ESPN. He doesn't do basketball much, though.
1/11/2006 2:18:54 AM
if there fans don't, why should espn?

...so did they change the highlight reel overnight? cuz i just watched it and it pretty well established that NC State dominated the game...
1/11/2006 7:40:43 AM
who are the hurricanes?
1/11/2006 7:51:09 AM
i saw the 11 oclock sportscenter last nite, and i thought the highlites favored us. they started off showing us jump out to a lead, then they showed a few BC highlites when they brought it to within 9 (showed a few 3 point shots)...and then they showed benermans (i thinks who is was) reverse dunk to finish it out.i swear some people try to make something out of nothing.

I opened my Star-News (Wilmington) and was anxious to see the sports section to see what was written. I found UNC/VT on the front page, along with a Panthers/Bears article that took up almost the whole page. Where did I find a story about my Wolfpack's double digit win against a ranked opponent??? On page 7, the second to last page. The last page is full of advertisements. I was pissed. I have already written to the sports editor this morning and I'm waiting to hear back. I HATE the media. UNC and their propoganda shall not stand forever! Viva Wolfpack!!!
1/11/2006 8:56:13 AM
^^^^ Yeah I just saw it and it was all State...Im pretty sure the version that repeats all morning is the one that is live at 2am, that might be the difference. Also one reason the highlights had more BC in them originally may be because they are cutting as the game goes, rather than waiting until the game is over....with so many games ending around 11PM you cant wait until they are all over to edit.
1/11/2006 9:23:53 AM
^ true, and they probably also had to fill more time with the game then they would have for the 2am airing... so they have to drag things out a bit...
1/11/2006 9:30:06 AM
ESPN producers must read Tdub
1/11/2006 9:32:38 AM
^Riiiiiighhhtt.....No. You can't read shit when you've got your head so far up Roy William's ass like ESPN does.
1/11/2006 9:50:53 AM
1/11/2006 9:59:20 AM
game ended at 11.... They had plenty of time. The other day they went to press with the story of 12 W. Virginia miners found alive and that story didn't break until about 12:30 or so. No excuse....

QUIT BITCHING ABOUT TRIVIAL, INSIGNIFICANT SHIT. THERE IS NO CONSPIRACY. THE FRONT PICTURE AND ARTICLE IN THE ONLINE NEWS AND OBSERVER WAS ABOUT US. OF COURSE UNC IS GOING TO GET MORE PUB IN WILMINGTON AND ASHVILLE BUT WHO GIVES A SHIT?GOD THIS FUCKING RIDICULOUS INFERIORITY COMPLEX NEEDS TO FUCKING STOP. HATING THEM IS FINE BUT PINING OVER EVERY INSIGNIFICANT SHIT DETAIL THAT HAPPENS IS GOD DAMN RETARDED./caps[Edited on January 11, 2006 at 10:14 AM. Reason : F]

They have our final score. They have all of the box scores from the night. I'm just upset that NC State doesn't get more coverage in North Carolina. I honestly do not think this is trivial. It affects more than you might think. The more positive exposure NC State gets, the more interest we will get from local recruits and future students. NC State always gets second or third billing. Our win last night was much bigger than UNC's or the other story that took the front page. I don't get the Raleigh News & Observer, and I want to read stories about our basketball game. I don't really care about a Wednesday story on a game that won't be played until SUNDAY. Reading about the Panthers and Bears is not that vitally important that it takes precedence over a game that JUST HAPPENED. Truth is, The Star-News had the information on the game. They chose not to put it on the front page with UNC's near upset to VPI&SU. They chose to put it on the LAST PAGE. That reaks of disrespect and bias. There's no doubt.
1/11/2006 10:30:01 AM
I happen to think the local NFL team in the playoffs is more important than a college basketball game, and I love college basketball.

The online formatsNews & Observer (Raleigh) - front page, lead storyNews & Record (Greensboro) - front page, lead storyCharlotte Observer (Charlotte) - sidebar story (same as UNC -- Bobcats game was lead story)Herald - Sun (Durham/Chapel Hill) - UNC has lead story/picture (State is second story)Wilmington Star - you did this one alreadyFayetteville Observer-Times - sidebar story (same as UNC -- minor league hockey lead story)seems pretty equal to me. Those are the big papers in teh state..

I've already talked to the editor at the Star-News. I am still dissatisfied with the coverage of the game in my local paper, but at least now I know why it wasn't covered as well. I still don't like the media and their blatant overshadowing of our win last night. GO PACK!!!

Thanks Tonia. I just don't like it when the Sports headline isn't the biggest or best story of the day. They could have even put the Sutter HOF story first (a good story in a town where baseball seems to be pretty important), but they chose "Tar Heels Shake Hokies" for top billing. I just didn't like State getting shafted all the way to the last page.^to answer your question, here's part of the email.
1/11/2006 11:21:32 AM
I don't remember the guy's name...but when I worked at State (now a little more than 3 years ago - damn I'm getting old), the ACC beat writer at the Star News was a UNC grad. He was pretty fair in coverage though.Local games where the smaller city papers are able to supply their own writers get more coverage. No chance the Star News or Rocky Mount Telegram is sending someone to BC to cover the game.
1/11/2006 11:25:25 AM
We get no respect because everytime we beat a shit team, our entire fanbase emails ESPN, bitches for love, and then we go and lose the game they pay attention to.
