I just bought a Sempron 2400+ to replace my damaged Athlon XP 2000+. When I bought it, the guy at TigerDirect said to make sure my board supports a Sempron and that it supports overclocking. I did a little research and, while the Asus website doesn't say that my board supports Sempron (it's an A7V333), I do know that I can manually overclock the board. So I have not opened anything yet, because if I know it won't work, I'm going to return it. Is there any reason why a Sempron would not work in this board?

It looks like they haven't updated the BIOS for that motherboard since 2004.. and with the CPU support list not showing Sempron, I highly doubt that the motherboard will recognize your Sempron processor.

You can either buy a new SocketA motherboard, or return the Sempron and go with another Athlon XP chip.. I do have a 2500+ sitting around (motherboard died when I was upgrading it). PM me if you're interested.

it's can't hurt to try it, as long as it's a socket a i'll either post or not , no harm no foul. i'd look around for a bios update though.

It CAN hurt to try it. If it doesn't work, I wasted $65 and can't return it.

yeah...td is VERY strict about that stuff...if it's not defective (and they will test it while you stand there), then you're stuck with it
