anyone know when the next set of uber dell laptop deals is gonna hit? like the $750 off deals?
1/9/2006 2:13:33 PM
they have had $750 off deals recently, but it was 750 off 2000, not 750 off 1500.im starting to think those days are gone

when business goes down those times will return...that and probably just after their fiscal year ends...and then 6 months from that
1/9/2006 2:52:12 PM
when does their fiscal year end?
1/9/2006 3:14:57 PM
after looking at their financial statements, it seems as if it ends at the end of January. Could be wrong though.[Edited on January 9, 2006 at 3:40 PM. Reason : V well there ya go]

fiscal year ends end of january
1/9/2006 3:38:41 PM
well, while I wait for a month, anyone know of any good laptop deals? basically best you can get for about $800?
1/9/2006 4:51:19 PM
i've seen some fairly decent new sony vaio's go for 900ish on ebay...little over 800 but pretty nice computer if you want the centrino mobile instead of an all out battery draining P4
1/9/2006 5:26:57 PM
vaios are shit.an equivelent Dell laptop will cost you less and last longer.

Last major discounts on systems was around summertime ... think Julyish if you want to check slickdeals archives. Only thing I've seen since is the mad crazy discounts on the widescreen LCDs. Probably due up ... but thats about as good as speculating about anything else.

I thought FY ended for everybody on 30 Septthats traditionally end of FY for bussinesses
1/9/2006 8:14:31 PM
ummmmm, no. FY for business generally ends at the end of one of the quarters but it doesn't have to be the end of the third quarter. for instance my companies FY ends december 31.
1/9/2006 9:12:24 PM
yea it depends on the type of corporation, their industry and their declared EOY in their SEC filings if they are public
1/9/2006 10:21:30 PM
interesting...I know for the govt and for all defense contractors end of FY is Sept 30

^ that might have something to do with when the budget for the next year gets approved... it's usually done aroudn that time so it would make sense for businesses to start their new year around then, of course i'm probably way off with that, but whatever...most general retail does theirs at the end of january... that way they end the year with the christmas season and give themselves a month to do their inventories before closing the books
1/10/2006 8:10:24 AM
Yeah, i looked at Dells SEC and determined their fiscal year end.

bttt - Anyone else seen any good deals? The Dell 6000 looks pretty good, so does the HP dv4000 - anyone have any suggestions? I'm looking to spend $1300-1500
1/13/2006 11:18:29 AM
Those cheapie inspirons for like $500 with a widescreen display were pretty cool, my dad got a couple for the office.I'm not sure how often they're going to offer it, or if they currently are, but I remember thinking that with a little more memory, they would make something nice to do a little light computing on.

i got an acer for either like 1100 or 1300 (i forget it was a couple months ago). was looking for one for grad school and it has equivalent specs for a good bit less than ppl like ibm, sony, etc.they supposedly have had some build quality issues, but im really happy with mine and it only weighs like 3-3.5 lbs.good for nice, decently fast, mobile computing. not exactly for games given its graphics card, but lugging around a 10lbs mobile desktop gets old quick.[Edited on January 13, 2006 at 11:48 AM. i'm also seriously considering some models by averatec - the brand as a whole rated really high in pc magazine recently and they're fairly inexpensive.in case anyone's curious, i'm looking for: ATI graphics with 128MB dedicated memory, 512MB RAM, integrated Wi-Fi, 15" screen, DVD burner, XP Pro, > 1.6GHz processor
