So I say fuck the UNC loss, let's get over it and move on.That being said, the Pack will not forget it. We're gonna be hungry. And you know what happens WHEN WE HUNGRYGO PACK

Just do what the yellow jackets did...WINon a side note, someone should tell BC's coach that in the ACC one wears a tie when one is coaching.
1/9/2006 1:58:07 PM
Yeah, I'll forgive the UNC loss if we win tomorrow...but we must win.
1/9/2006 2:01:35 PM
I'm pretty sure he doesn't give a fuck. Skinner is a good coach and was one of the few @ BC who who acted with class about the whole conference realignment. He is a good coach and a good guy...About the only thing at BC I respect.
1/9/2006 2:01:38 PM
I'm just afraid he didn't get the "ACC Coaching Dress Code" memo. I've given up on the football coaches (most ignore the no-sweatshirt clause), but I thought that the basketball coaches liked looking nice.
1/9/2006 2:06:07 PM
I'm telling YOU PEOPLE....dont get too confident....thats what makes you depressed when we lose.
1/9/2006 2:18:53 PM
This game is probably a loss for us. BC just got smacked by GT and will be at home. If we can rebound from the UNC loss and steal this one - I will have a good feeling about the rest of our season. If we can make a close game of it and play our style of ball - regardless of outcome - it will be acceptable. I am dreading that Duke game.

http://kenpom.com/sked.php?y=2006&team=Boston%20College&t=pBC's schedule to this point is questionable. Their only good win is against OK State. All three losses were close, though, to Mich. St., UMD, and GT. At 0-2 in the ACC, they're going to be pissed and aiming for the win. At the same time, we're coming off a very disappointing loss and have something to prove as well.I do not want us to be responsible for giving yet another team their first ACC win. We need to take this and beat GT at home to steady ourselves before going to Cameron.
1/9/2006 4:57:24 PM
^isnt Oklahoma State even having a down season though?
1/9/2006 5:14:31 PM
Yes, but that's still the best win on their schedule.
1/9/2006 5:20:08 PM
yeah...i just said that to support your argument that their schedule sucks.
1/9/2006 5:24:23 PM
is this game on tv or am I gonna have to listen to this shit on the radio?

Didn't BC start out like 20-0 last year in the Big Least? I think they've realized they are in THE basketball conference now. That being said, I think we pull a close one out, 72-70.
1/9/2006 10:42:58 PM

well if it works out like your tiki barber prediction we should be all set!
1/10/2006 9:03:12 AM
we need to win by at least 15-20. If we aren't up by at least that many, the refs WILL decide this game. State can't let that happen. Maybe Simmons should change numbers or something so the refs can't have memorized his number and just randomly call it out for fouls like they did against UNC. Face it, if Simmons hadn't been whistled for SO MANY fouls so early (and at least one was questionable), State would have won easily. Only when Simmons was out of the lineup did UNC have any success against us. Total refdom. Viva Wolfpack!!! Fight against the striped nazis!!
1/10/2006 9:10:40 AM
We are only 4.5 point underdogs away - should be a good one.I think we might steal this one or the one in Cameron - just so we get either I'll be

1/10/2006 9:45:30 AM
so you don't think that referee's have ANY influence whatsoever on close games.... That's numbskullery.Winning by double digits is the only way to take the ref's ability to control who wins or loses out of the equation....

ManStop smoking the pipe
1/10/2006 10:12:02 AM
I'm not smoking the pipe.... I just have seen far too much crap during this year's bowl season and now into basketball season that convinces me that refs have far too much impact on games. Go back to the Iowa/Florida bowlgame. Iowa was down seven, went for the onsides kick, recovered it. Refs called it back saying there was offsides, it was a late call and wrong as shown by replay. Iowa rekicks, Florida recovers, Florida wins. Refdom. Pure and simple. If you think that refs don't have a predetermined player in their head that they are going to watch like a hawk, you're wrong. Simmons was a marked player on Saturday....Viva Wolfpack! Fight the striped Nazis!!"The ACC: Perpetuating the idea of Refdom, one State game at a time."[Edited on January 10, 2006 at 10:22 AM. [NO]
1/10/2006 10:28:12 AM
If there was a marked player - it was Cam and although the ref called him for a foul when it was clearly a block, he didn't react - luckily since the ref was waiting for him to do anything.Ced played as I feared he might, went back to his freshman habits against a good team in a big game. He didn't stay vertical on D and didn't wait for the block - he was trying to reach in when there was no reason to do so - mistakes like he made his freshman year. Can refs make mistakes? Yes. Do they alter the outcome of games - it can happen. Will a good team overcome all of that? Yes.
1/10/2006 10:29:38 AM
i got class during part of this game
1/10/2006 10:30:17 AM
and good teams win by double digits to take outside influence away from the game. Look at Duke in their big games. Against Texas and against WFU they won both times by double digits. K knows that refs can screw you up. State just needs to get out of the gate quick and never look back. When they do, the other team and the refs will just have to play by the rules. I have just seen too many bad calls recently. I'm railing against referees because they are making more bad calls recently than I've seen in a while. And just for clarification, I am not just talking about State games. I've watched so many other teams get screwed over in close games because the refs made bad (intentionally or not) calls that decided the outcome. It just seems that with UNC grads infesting the ACC leadership, officiating is decidedly worse in NCState games of late. Look back to the Alabama game (with ACC officials).... Officiating in the bowl games was horrendous. The national championship game was horribly called, the Alamo Bowl was rediculous, the Outback Bowl sucked. It has just not been a good six months for sports teams to play because the officials have been stuck on stupid....State just needs to beat the Eagles to a bloody pulp before halftime. State by 24.GO WOLFPACK!

if you got think we got the short end of the stick from the refs during the carolina game, then you obviously weren't watching

1/10/2006 12:05:23 PM
Homecooking means that the refs stare at a particular player all night and don't miss any of his crap. It does not mean that they are bad calls, just a particular player gets more attention than others.

1/10/2006 12:25:10 PM
How about when Brackman got trapped underneath, and got gangbeat by three Tarheels.... *Whistle* Jump Ball! That was total bull....Plus I'm pretty sure that the foul calls were not even, not even close. The fouls were 20-19 in UNC's favor, but UNC had twice as many foul shots as we did. That's not close....

In two different interviews I heard Simmons complain about the officiating. In one he even said something about telling the referee that hansborough was getting a little too physical and the next thing ced knew, he had two quick fouls (and ced's #3 and 4 were bullshit). I dont care though, its over now, but it will give you something to think about if this keeps happening. We were clearly a better team with Ced in the game...I never thought I would say that based on last season... Oh...and someone tell Herb that if its a close game, and Ced is in foul trouble LEAVE HIM IN BECAUSE HE WONT PLAY THE LAST 2 MINUTES ANYWAY...k thx[Edited on January 10, 2006 at 2:09 PM. Reason : ]

when is the game tonight? 8:00?sorry, i've been busy @ work and am too lazy to check.
1/10/2006 2:09:57 PM
9 pm - Raycom (ESPN Fullcourt also?)If we are worried about the refs stealing the game we might as well stay in Raleigh.Cedric and Shoosh need to play better than against UNC, and Cam needs to play smarter.
1/10/2006 2:20:38 PM
i think the main thing i would like to see is consistent (or at least a positive contribution) play from Gavin. If not, Herb needs to pull the plug.
1/10/2006 2:25:51 PM
Yeah, I don't think Gavin is fitting into the offense like he should. He is trying to be the Hodgesque, take it to the rim, guy - when we don't need that as much this year. I would love to see Tony and Engin get more looks from 3 after a pass from Ced/Brack in the post.
1/10/2006 2:28:38 PM
ACC zebras are notoriously bad. I've made a thread or two in the past about other conferences complaining when they've played against ACC teams.Even if the refs get better, they will still always be a variable thats a part of the game. You can never remove the ref variable, so you have to treat it like an arbitrage opportunity. Coaches have to be able to work the refs. Its an acquired skill. Its a type of diplomacy. Noone does it better than Coach K, and OSU seems to get every call ever made in a football game to go their way. Chuck has become a noticeably better diplomat (especially since the TD that TA was robbed of 2 years ago), but Herb needs to get a hell of a lot better at it.
