lets get down and dirty! who is the better coach of his respective sport? why?Last year I would have said chuck all the way, given chuck's relative success and Herb's inconsistency. However, true to flip-floppin burr0 form, I've gotta give Herb the edge now, not because of the team's performance so far this season, but rather due to chuck droppin the ball this season. Chuck redeemed himself a little bit with the turnaround, but its going to take another season to see if the turnaround was caused by chuck or the players. Herb has been consistent at what he does, which is remaining mediocre to pretty decent, and while I hate mediocrity and the inconsistency of our teams (yes, i realize I used the positive and negative), one can see those things as a constant, instead of the up and down that Chuck's teams have had over the past 3 years. Thus, I'm goin with herb, but only by the slimmest of margins!
1/6/2006 7:43:50 PM
Haha Herb by a large margin. Least his players aren't dumbasses like Derek Morris.Chuck only has the advantage in bringing in high-class recruits then doing nothing with them.
1/6/2006 7:47:34 PM
theyre almost the exact same.[Edited on January 6, 2006 at 7:49 PM. Reason : slight edge to herb]
1/6/2006 7:49:26 PM
herb it just doesn't have the same ring to it as chuck it. hahahaOn the serious side.. I would have to say right now Herb has the bball program in better shape than Chuck has the fball program. It did take Herb longer to get a good foundation and a quality program but the bball program was in much worse shape than the fball program was when Chuck took over. Please don't turn this into the whole "watching our bball team play is like watching paint dry" arguement... I could care less what "style" we play as long as we score more points than our opponent. Proof of this is the fact that people are actually excited about our bball potential this year and the Herb hating threads have pretty much stopped. While during the fball season people were starting to turn on Chuck and trashing him..
1/6/2006 8:12:44 PM
This thread is nothing but trouble. Not comparable. Football takes longer to build than basketball.... Herb started slow but is looking promising (but the season is young)..... different facilities.....etc.
1/6/2006 8:25:00 PM
football might take longer to build, but you certainly can't argue that chuck had more of a foundation to start with than herb did. I mean, chuck took o'cain's players and made them gator bowl champs. Few coaches could have done anything comparable w/ what herb started with. that right there is probably my biggest selling point w/ chuck, namely that he took players that were losers under another guy and turned them into absolute winners. Granted, phil certainly helped a lot, as did the good asst. coaches chuck started out w/, but that tells you that chuck knew how to pick winners as far as asst. coaches go.

apples to oranges
1/6/2006 9:27:34 PM
sure, if you only look at the teams' current status in their respective sports. but, if you do like I am doing, and compare their progress and their trend consistency, then the oranges become apples.
1/6/2006 9:43:43 PM
who cares? i pull for nc state, not herb or chuck.the bball team is in a better position to win the acc, obviously.[Edited on January 6, 2006 at 9:51 PM. Reason : .]

1/6/2006 11:39:33 PM
herb is more than respectable
1/6/2006 11:40:38 PM
^Fair enough, I'll agree with that.
1/6/2006 11:44:47 PM
i will admitherb is a class act. he gets a thumbs up from me as long as we win the acc someday...
1/6/2006 11:55:22 PM
Chuck is cooling his ways a little though...he stopped dressing like an assclown on the sidelines after the UNC loss...got rid of the big shades and red shoes, so there is progress.
1/6/2006 11:59:30 PM
Too bad he had to get totally clowned first.
1/7/2006 12:07:57 AM
at least he is willing to change...thats my only point...he's still low in my book, but i have to give him a chance in the future

Next year could get ugly for the football team. I was thinking we could be alright...add a Schaeffer, still have Tulloch anchoring the linebacker corps, hopefully have Raymond Brooks back on the DL.If we don't get Schaeffer and Stone is under center next year with Tulloch gone (and you sure as fuck can't count on Ray Brooks for shit)...I don't even want to think about it. Not to mention for the first time in a few years the recruiting isn't looking all that great. Chuck needs to pull something out his ass next year. It could be bad.Herb's kicking ass this year and he's been bringing in solid to great classes. I don't see how it's even close.
1/7/2006 12:12:42 AM
herb all the way!! definately classier..ACC bastketball is way tougher to be in than ACC football..and chuck had yrs before miami and VT joined to do something.,.

1/8/2006 12:03:13 AM
ummm, i didn't know chuck's players since rivers left were O'Cain's. wow, thanks for enlightening me! And no, the players themselves weren't losers. O'Cain just couldn't really win with them, dipshit.

1/8/2006 1:25:58 AM
Hey aaronburro you always want Herb fired for his ACC record. Why don't you look at the same years that Herb and Chuck have been here and compare. Chuck's ACC record 23-25Herb's ACC record last 5 years:43-39Even though neither has a great record, Herb's is actually better and even includes 6-10 in 2000-2001 when the team fell totally apart.
1/8/2006 10:28:22 AM
ummmm, maybe because you are comparing apples to oranges? Its not fair to compare a coach's first years to the years of an established coach, dumbass. that would be like comparing the duke football coach's record to Coach K's record for the past 2 years.
1/8/2006 11:33:13 AM
some of you are just absolutely awful fans and make me ashamed and embarrassed to be a state fanalso sandsanta won this thread
1/8/2006 11:35:05 AM
how exactly did he win the thread? by coming in and yelling "NOBODY GIVES A SHIT!!!" when clearly people do? hmmm...
1/8/2006 11:37:15 AM
i dont think its so much him winning as you automatically lose anytime you post
