LSU was a bright spot in the bowls... but by and large SEC continued it's downward spiral... it's been going downhill for a few years now, but nobody seemed to recognize it until this season...last years SEC West was almost as bad as the Big XII North, but nobody talked about it...and this year's wasn't any better

i assume this is a joke thread?[Edited on January 6, 2006 at 9:52 AM. Reason : 5 teams in the final top 15, 3 in the top 10?]

joke threaD? aside from LSU's bowl performance, the conference underachieved like crazyTennessee 5-6!
1/6/2006 9:55:46 AM
^^ they're way overrated... it's obvious to anyone who actually watched them play... the problem is that the sportswriters and coaches aren't watching, they're just voting based on conference reputation

I thought this was the same group of individuals that pretty much agreed that preseason polls are useless.Anyway.The SEC isn't as great as it used to be...but that's prob. because there's more of an "any given saturday" feel to the conference. When Georgia, who loses to Florida, who lost to Auburn, who lost to LSU, who lost to Tennessee, who lost to South Carolina, who lost to Alabama, who lost to Georgia is the scenario (I don't know how accurate that is, and I don't care either), we tend to look at that as "hey look! no team in this conference is 12-0! they've lost it!" when in actuality trying to win the SEC is essentially the biggest dogfight in college football.

^ exactly. I'll be the first to admit that Tennessee was fucking HORRIBLE this year. Still cant believe we beat LSU... but HALF of their games were against top 10 teams... Hell, that might actually be half were against top 5 teams if I could go back to see what they were ranked each week[Edited on January 6, 2006 at 1:44 PM. Reason : f]

It was, without a doubt, a weak showing by the SEC this year. I don't think it was one of those "every team was so good" years so much as no team seemed to have any consistent force like they usually do. They still are the best football conference in top to bottom talent.

the biggest thing was everytime a school got high up in the rankings, they would lose the next week. LSU to TN, TN to UGA, UGA to Auburn, etc. no one really lost early and then had a long stretch, it was like win 4, lose 1, win 3, lose 1 etc.
