1/5/2006 9:02:37 PM
5 National Championships as a head coach, and he leaves to be an OCBrilliant
1/5/2006 9:03:23 PM
further proof of the need for section specific banning....
1/5/2006 9:07:26 PM
Why in Gods name would he even leave tOSU for Miami if they offered him the HEAD COACH position. Being the head coach at tOSU is the one of the premeire jobs in the country. It's like being Michigan or Notre Dame head coach. This is stupid.
1/5/2006 9:30:08 PM
Miami>OSU,ND, Michigan.
1/5/2006 9:35:17 PM
^NO not prestige wise
1/5/2006 9:48:32 PM
I would have Miami, Ohio State, ND, Michigan and a few other all about equal
1/5/2006 10:01:51 PM
Ohio State might be the best job in the country since he can have his players paid off.
1/5/2006 10:36:56 PM
Yea because of Maurice Clarett said it, it must be true. I take everything that holy, pure man says as Gospel personally.
1/5/2006 10:39:06 PM
and Troy Smith
1/5/2006 10:41:29 PM
Wake up guys! You got a game in Neyland today!** I said I wouldn't insult them until football season was over! It is![insert UConn - Marcus Williams insult here]
1/5/2006 10:43:13 PM
exactly...most of the TN ones were overblown... like Schaeffer and Jamal Lewis...
1/5/2006 10:46:14 PM
the thread was supposed to be aboutTRESTMANnot tressel.
1/6/2006 8:13:09 AM
^ Wow, you're right. I actually didn't put 2 and 2 together. I did hear that Miami was looking at Marc Trestman for OC. Not gonna happen though
1/6/2006 8:29:23 AM
miami doesn't have a tenth of the football tradition that tOSU has.
1/6/2006 8:55:17 AM
Miami has won five national championships. How many has tOSU won? According to this website http://library.osu.edu/sites/archives/OSUvsMichigan/osunational.htm, they've won 7, but some of them don't seem like actual national championships. Like 1970 when they lost in the Rose Bowl. Or 1961 when the UPI and AP awarded it to Bama but the Football Writers gave it to OSU.Miami and OSU appear to be neck and neck in National Championships.
1/6/2006 9:30:13 AM
that may be, but if you take everything into account, such as football history, the amount of fans that actually attend the games, and the TRADITION that surrounds the team, OSU is by far the better program. Football is god in ohio, and OSU is the mecca of that state. Everyone knows that miami has some of the worst fans in the country across the board. OSU has arguably the best. Miami has had alot of recent success, but OSU is a storied program and always will be.
1/6/2006 10:47:19 AM
^what he said
1/6/2006 11:13:27 AM
yeah Miami rarely sells out there stadium.
1/6/2006 11:24:14 AM
1/6/2006 11:43:36 AM
we werent talking about tradition... we were talking about coaching position prestige... if we were talking about tradition then Harvard, Yale, and Army would be "hot" coaching spots. But as far as coaching position Miami, along with several others, is as high as you can get in college.
1/6/2006 11:47:58 AM
tOSU > Miami for a coach.
1/6/2006 11:52:43 AM
Two totally different thingsArmy is a has beenOhio State is a has been/still been/still will be power with a boatload of national tradition, great players, fanbase support, and recruiting pull. Miami is a great program, but as far as national awe... it's nowhere near the program Ohio State is. Ohio State is a cleaner program (at least perception-wise), a much older power, and a much much larger fanbase. The only benefit about Miami is the talent pool in the near vicinity. Even so, Ohio State has no trouble getting talent from anywhere in the nation.
1/6/2006 11:53:52 AM
^^ not at all. There is no logic behind that at all. Jimmy Johnson, Butch Davis vs. Cooper and Tressel? at BEST that is a draw if not in Miami's favor[Edited on January 6, 2006 at 11:56 AM. Reason : d]
1/6/2006 11:55:50 AM
^ Woody Hayes
1/6/2006 11:57:32 AM
^^ and you are being very short sighted... remember, Ohio State was a good, but not great team for a long long time before Tressel got there... ^ exactly... from him retiring to Tressel they were good, but not greatMiami wasnt shit before the early 80s so obviously Ohio State has them on pure tradition, but when it comes to which position is "higher up" I have them equal.[Edited on January 6, 2006 at 11:59 AM. Reason : d]
1/6/2006 11:58:24 AM
Yeah, I'd say they're about equal these days in terms of recent success and national exposure. But the Miami teams the past couple of years don't impress me nearly as much.
1/6/2006 12:01:05 PM
32 Championships for Ohio State (Conference or National)12 for Miami (Same)In the past 10 years, you're right. Overall, Ohio State by a mile. I'd still give them a huge huge lead as far as "mystique" when looking for head coaching jobs just due to their all-time ass-whipping history. Notre Dame is Notre Dame, no matter how bad they are. Would you leave Louisville (top 10 team) for a shitty Notre Dame team? You bet your ass you wouldRegardless, Tressel wouldn't leave Ohio State for Miami. No way no how[Edited on January 6, 2006 at 12:03 PM. Reason : ]
1/6/2006 12:01:38 PM
and I am being totally unbiased, I hate the shit out of both of the schools... Ohio State is more the classic college place, like Penn Sate, Nebraska, Tennessee etc where the football team is dominant. Miami is more like a 3-4 year long combine that just pushes out NFL players AND coaches but in terms of coaching prestige level, I have them equal, just depends on the coach's preference
1/6/2006 12:03:28 PM
That we can agree on. Ohio State isn't so bad, but Miami sucks ass in my opinion. Screw em'
1/6/2006 12:04:16 PM
^^^ BUT.... if someone was offered the Ohio State job AND the Miami job at the same time, neither one would be a "step down" from the other.Louisville is no where NEAR either one of those[Edited on January 6, 2006 at 12:04 PM. Reason : ^]
1/6/2006 12:04:41 PM
Yeah, bad analogy I guessI dunno, If I was offered a position.... THE coaching job would be at:1) Notre Dame2) Michigan3) Ohio StateAfter that Miami, Florida, FSU, Nebraska, Penn State, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, USC, etc. would be thrown in there. Just my opinion, really... I just think those 3 are on a level of their own
1/6/2006 12:09:55 PM
I would have all of those on the same level along with Bama, Tennessee, Georgia.
1/6/2006 12:14:09 PM
Didn't Petrino turn down LSU to stay out Louisville? I'm pretty sure he did. That isn't a bad job. Fat contract, awesome facilities, BCS conference that theyhave a shot to win almost every year, good recruiting connections, etc, etc..
1/6/2006 12:16:26 PM
^^ Actually I forgot about a few of those...1) Notre Dame2) Michigan3) Ohio State4) Alabama5) TennesseeThen I'd throw Georgia (forgot about Auburn too) into the mix with "the rest".
1/6/2006 12:30:28 PM
WHO WOULD LEAVE NC STATE FOR MIAMI??? WE'VE GOT AN INFLATABLE WOLF AND A BIG MURAL OF CHUCK AMATOS SUNGLASSES.
1/6/2006 1:41:36 PM
hahahaha, and an awkward intro where Mr Wulf just kind of stands around for 10 minutes in the middle of the field while everyone watches him..
