where's the best place to look? i heard it's actually cheaper to go straight through the airlines instead of these online sites, but all i've checked so far is the websites. cheapest i found from raleigh is $1174 and $1081 from kansas city (if i visit family beforehand). if anyone knows of anything cheaper, please let me know! my dates would be:departing the states (raleigh or kc): may 31stdeparting japan (osaka) to come back: july 3rd

if you can afford to stay in japan for a month, the flight costs are negligible.

Try this site http://www.iace-usa.com/scripts/IACE/vb_bridge3.dll?VBPROG=call&ID=1_799489879250&IF=LIST&CAT=SPECIAL&PG=special_detail.xsl&LAN=USAlso, try to call Japanese Agency (find the number from board @ japanese grocery Chatham square). It should be about $900.

add this to your try listhttp://www.japantravel.com/It has an office in Raleigh and always come recomended by the Japan Center. Generally you can get way better deals with a place like that than with generic online dealers.I found studentuniverse about on par with the generic online dealers, but they kind of have a different pool of tickets it seems, it's quite possible you can check and get lucky to find a ticket cheaper than the generic dealers (by these i mean orbitz and friends). Also, keep in mind as your looking at studentuniverse and whatever that link someone posted a few lines ago that that doesn't include tax. that runs over 100$ i believe. And Leaving from NY is also not leaving from greensbourough or raleigh (can be hundreds cheaper).when i went to japan the best deals i heard of students getting were high 500s 600s (tax included). One person got it a half year early from orbitz and i lucked the hell out with the guys from that link i posted. Don't be the guy who waited until 3 weeks before and got it for 1400, that guy is very pathetic. Most people got it for the range of prices you mentioned in the first post.what are you going to japan for? With those dates it doesn't look like one of the summer programs that students here commonly do.[Edited on January 4, 2006 at 10:14 PM. Reason : ;]

Yeah, you might see some 'deals' for maybe a few seats just to lure people in, but you cannot secure any tickets to london or europe with any frequency for under $300 a ticket. Not with todays fuel costs. I spent $1150 to fly to Lyon France in August. And that was $250 cheaper than I could find it anywhere else. Finally had to use a travel agent, because using every online site was yielding me no cheaper results.
