fuck coldplay and whoever likes them. its the most overrated piece of bullsh!t music I've ever heard in my life. i think it just became trendy to like them or something. they sound like sh!t. i hope the lead singer gets merked john lennon style.
1/4/2006 10:03:28 AM
Pretty sounds, pretty sounds. No real talent, just pretty sounds. Kinda like Sigur Ros with melodic sense.
1/4/2006 10:04:45 AM
Coldplay is the sh!t, B.Quit hatin'.
1/4/2006 10:11:40 AM

^what she saidthey're on my "To See Live" list probably more so than Radioheadno, definitely more so than radiohead
1/4/2006 11:02:33 AM
^ im not a fan of either

it's a little sad they became a tad "trendy", but it's not because they tried to. sometimes music is so good it gets swallowed up by MTV without their choice...they didn't change their sound on the 2nd record which means they're stickin' to the rootsI will admit they are the best live band I've ever seen. Seeing them live would probably change your mind.

i saw them in charlotte this past summer... i was actually pretty bored by their live performance. but i don't like big arenas anyway.also, i really like their first two albums but haven't been impressed by x&y.

1/4/2006 11:18:12 AM
my x&y cd ripped just fine.I dunno what that shits about.
1/4/2006 11:41:41 AM
"A Rush of Blood to the Head" is one of my favorite albums. I think X&Y was really overhyped.
1/4/2006 1:04:22 PM
I hate this Amsterdam douche more and more with every thread he makes.
1/4/2006 1:28:28 PM
1/4/2006 2:06:29 PM
Their songs sound more repetitive to me than most. The same sound over and over again with words (i.e. Paracutes).
1/4/2006 2:17:44 PM
Keane sounds like them or vice versa.
1/4/2006 2:48:22 PM
^^yes, pretty much every song sounds exactly the same.

i don't get the radiohead comparisons...because they're both british?!?!
1/4/2006 5:04:06 PM
never been a coldplay fan...personally like radiohead betterbut i DO like that video for The Scientists where its all backwards...thats pretty cool
1/4/2006 5:13:02 PM
1/4/2006 5:14:53 PM
like when I'm listening to some Binary Star or somethin with some n00bs and they're all like "that sounds like Method Man"people just like to relate
1/4/2006 5:18:42 PM
nah, they were both managed by the same peoplei dont remember the details, but a friend of mine who works with EMI-Norway, who is also friends with Chris, told me all about the connections between the two
1/4/2006 5:57:08 PM
the two bands are similar in that they both suck

Everyone I know that went to the Coldplay show said it was the best show they've ever seen, they put on one hell of a live show. Their music is good, don't know why you're hating on them.

Radiohead has talent.
1/4/2006 7:52:12 PM
Coldplay is shamelessly ripping off U2its disgusting. i dunno why bono hasn't bitchsmacked those fools
1/4/2006 8:16:27 PM
^^^ I was too vague. Sigur Ros has very little in the way of hooky melodic sense. I remember a grand total of one of their hooks.
1/4/2006 11:39:26 PM
Yeah, they aren't anything like Dave Mathews...you can listen to them when you're not stoned too
1/4/2006 11:55:03 PM
hello bgmims, grow the fuck up.vinyl--i understand what you mean, but i'd say their "melodic sense" is pretty spot-on. a melody doesn't necessarily have to cater to a hook, per se. their melodies are focused more like jazz heads, appearing and reappearing in their original forms and as variations. and, also, this real talent concept is a bit weird. explain?
1/5/2006 12:25:46 AM
hello dmbny, telling me to grow the fuck up when you devoted your online name to a band is as asinine as a DMB concert. Fucker

1/5/2006 12:35:03 AM
I don't hear profound songwriting talent when I listen to Coldplay. They make pretty sounds and write decent songs and play them competently, but I personally am not all that interested in those things unless there's some other factor going on. That factor, which is often a gut-check sense of urgency when playing their music live, may very well be present when Coldplay play live, but I've never seen them so all I'm going on is their records. For the sake of specificity, when I say profound songwriting talent I'm talking about Lennon/McCartney, Holland/Dozier/Holland, Brian Wilson, etc.
1/5/2006 12:43:17 AM
profound songwriting talent and real talent are two very different things. and i'm not defending coldplay at all. i'm just trying to get around the ambiguity.
1/5/2006 12:45:16 AM
Are you kidding? Chris Martin is the most talented motherfucker on the earth. How else can a guy who pens such bland, derivative music wed and bed Gwyneth Paltrow?
1/5/2006 12:46:20 AM
1/5/2006 12:53:08 AM
As I've stated before, I don't really give a shit about technical proficiency-type talent when it comes to music. I recognize it, I respect it, but unless a lack of proficiency is standing in the way of the music, I couldn't care less. That's not to say that the two are mutually exclusive...there are plenty of musicians who are outstanding technically but also great composers and/or performers. So it's out there.^ Nothing's wrong with being "good". Like I said, Coldplay are very good at making pretty sounds, but I don't hear anything special. "Gimme Some Lovin'" is not a particularly great song, but the vocal delivery and the organ sound are so fantastic, it's one of my favorite recordings.[Edited on January 5, 2006 at 12:57 AM. 1/5/2006 12:54:31 AM
yeah, so?
1/5/2006 12:55:08 AM
the best band mentioned in this thread is sigur ros
1/5/2006 12:57:34 AM
Yeah, so, it's "Funhouse" time.
1/5/2006 1:01:50 AM
So my interests include beer and women, so fucking what?I guess I'm not cool like you and dig fuzzy navels and anusAnd if we're on to music, I could care less if you don't like my favorite musicians. They happen to be Maynard James Keenan (regardless of the band he's fronting), Jim Croce, Our Lady Peace, Brand New and of course others. But anyway, I just ripped on Dave Mathews because I think he gets the same overrated award Coldyplay gets even though I happen to dig the Coldplay style a bit more. You telling me to grow up just pissed me off.
