but the other computer in my brother's room (same modem/router with roadrunner) is working fine.

i rebuilt my computer and reinstalled windows, but i can't get a connection through any of the network connection options...and as you can see it works in my brother's room...

anyone know what is causing this?

Are the correct network drivers installed? (XP's driver database is aging and often requires a supplimental CD or custom build)

i need to update the driver...i don't have an additional cd...what should i do just get the name of the network adapter, find the latest driver, save it to a disk and install it on the computer?

this is the board: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16813128301

and it came with a cd that i installed all of the stuff from...chipsets and drivers...

here are the drivers... http://www.gigabyte-usa.com/Motherboard/Support/Driver/Driver_List.htm

Go into the Hardware Manager/Mangler and delete the network ports and immediately reboot.

When you boot back up it should "detect new hardware" ... when it does then provide it the driver disk you made.

If it does not, then manually add the driver through Hardware Manager.

that's the initial crap driver that xp installed. you may as well turn this connection off.

this is the connection created by the driver from gigabyte.

i would connect your computer directly to the cable modem, to eliminate the possibility that it's the router.

^nah

1394 is firewire since you can do a network connection with it

the lan connection 4 was nvidea forceware firewall and connection manager...i just found that...removed it...and now it works perfect...thanks for all of your help though...tww and google to the rescue...

if you have an nvidea chipset keep that crap uninstalled!
