Okay, so is it going to fuck up my laptop if I used a 19V 3.16A ac adapter versus the 19V 3.95A adapter it's supposed to use?If so, why?

it won't harm your laptop as much as prolly just blow the adapter fuse[Edited on December 30, 2005 at 12:28 AM. Reason : .]

Laptop should be fine. I'm guessing this will work without a hitch. If there was a problem most likely the adapter will go like ^ said. I doubt the laptop will draw the max amperage all the time.

yea, well it charged, but I had to cycle the adapter on and off with it running, bastard got hot as FUCK.

my apple charger gets hot as hell when i charge my powerbook up from near-dead charge, almost too hot to touch. im guessing what happened to yours is okay... just keep an eye on it. if it's designed well, the fuse will blow before anything bad happens.^^ don't worry about it

Except that those 6 60 watt bulbs aren't running on 19v DC
12/30/2005 11:12:31 PM
^^It was way beyond the normal temperature. I know what a power brick is supposed to feel like. It was on the verge of melting the casing into the carpet hot.

d00dsThe adapter gets very hot if your battery is drained out because the large potential difference causes a lot of current to flow. More current means a hotter transformer core.

d00d: it gets danerously hot because it was trying to charge the battery WHILE powering the laptop as I was using it. The combination was what put it in dangerzone. Just charging it was fine.

my laptop draws over 4A consistently
12/31/2005 2:36:55 PM
4A that's what, 360W? or maybe it's 320, depending on your IP address.

dude you're not at all funny.
