just curious. does anyone know if there are any differences between a regular crown victoria and the police interceptor version of it? i think i heard somewhere that the police engines are better, but wasn't sure.
12/24/2005 10:53:02 PM
doesn't the police version have a bigger battery?
12/24/2005 10:57:38 PM
certified calibrated speedo
12/24/2005 11:09:05 PM
sooooooo, not really any big differences?
12/24/2005 11:09:33 PM
Gear differentialsDifferent speed limit set in the regulatorEngine set for more RPMalong with more differences
12/24/2005 11:10:27 PM
more rugged suspension
12/24/2005 11:21:31 PM
PM Mark VII - he owns one. I think optmus is right- the calibrated speedo is the only difference.

a guaranteed asshole in every drivers seat.

12/24/2005 11:49:30 PM
they have heavier duty wheels, the suspension is more aggressive, firmermay have additional bracing on the frame (?)a guy i know used to have one and it came with a booklet explaining all of the differences

I wonder if they have tested a B4C Police Interceptor Camaro versus the stock Z28 Camaro. I've heard lots of rumors that they are chipped out and everything, but I bet they are just stock with less nice interior options and a bigger radiator/alternator.
12/25/2005 12:36:18 PM
some models had the dohc engine, all had heavy duty suspension, drivetrain and frames, reinforced bumpers, other than that, not a whole lot
12/25/2005 8:57:29 PM
i've seen tests where the police versions of cars were MUCH slower than stock, due to the extra weight and extra drag of the lights
12/25/2005 9:04:51 PM
they also have to hold up to a lot of abuse though, put a stock one through fields, curbs, high speed chases and whatnot, and it would fall apart in no time
12/25/2005 9:15:51 PM
um police cars DO fall apart in no time. maybe not a detective car, but a regular squad car gets the ridden hard and put up wet constantly.
12/26/2005 10:56:57 AM
alternator, sun light in cabin, stock with doughnut holder on dash
12/26/2005 11:39:05 AM
the interceptor has stock dual exhaust and is rated at a slighty higher hp. maybe more stuff
12/26/2005 2:12:56 PM
cop cars come with uncomfortable back seats
12/26/2005 5:22:36 PM
It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks
12/26/2005 7:24:29 PM
a full tank of gas
12/26/2005 7:35:41 PM
relocated gas tank

Ok truth:no crown vic ever got a DOHC engineTh einterceptors have a higher amp charging systems, Heavy duty springs(as opposed to alot of the civilian vics have rear air bags), heavy duty shocks, certified speedo, some have different rear end gears but it depends on how they were ordered, they have the crappiest of crappy interiors, no speed limiter, ticket writer light, relocated trunk release button, full szed spare, non-variable power steering, and some (alos depending on how they were ordered) idle at 1000rpm to keep charging with the accessories. Well it is true they do have true dual exhaust so do alot of regular vics. As far as heavy duty wheels....if the stock 16 inch steel wheels are heavy duty then yeh they have those. They do have reinfored seat rails for long term sitting(not a joke) other than that they are stock as stock can be top speed about 138 without a lightbar, 132 with a bar...

oh, and the floor mounted tranny shift lockout. (looks like an old high beam switch)
12/28/2005 7:58:20 AM
when i was a kid i thought the taurus police cars on robocop = hottest cars ever
12/28/2005 11:10:45 AM
The tranny lockout....is almost always a piece installed by the department, I know the state has them put in and removed before they are sold.
12/29/2005 9:49:19 PM
is that just to keep people from stealing them?
12/29/2005 11:43:34 PM
Pretty much....

^ i specifically remember putting a starter on a southampton county sherriff dept. interceptor crown vic with a dohc engine when i worked at my old shop in high school, because it was a bitch to find parts for.
12/30/2005 7:46:46 AM
only way a crownvic got a DOHC is if somebody did it in the aftermarket, the only Panther chasis car ever to get a DOHC 4.6 was the 03-04 Mercury Marauder there was never a special order DOHC police interceptor and....even it is was somehow a owner installed DOHC, they have the same starter....same accessories...only different heads, timing cover intake...the blaock tranny everything like that on the SOHC/DOHC is the same[Edited on December 30, 2005 at 5:18 PM. Based on this thread, with the interceptor you could make all kinds of claims about it and no one would know the difference.
12/30/2005 7:44:59 PM
people do make all sorts of claims rangeing from hopped up engines to potential supercar parts....overall just stock cars..
12/30/2005 9:54:06 PM
That Michigan State Police test was very informative, esp. when you look back at the older model years tested. Seems the infamous B4C in its factory form does NOT run like some high speed demon, but in fact put up stock numbers or damn close to it of a plain ass Z28. I guess I can show that to my coworkers brother who has a B4C and swears up and down it came from the factory chipped and modded and all this horseshit.Either that or just get the tranny fixed and put it to him.
