my cats?

Two of my cats got spayed last Wednesday (Dec. 14). When is it safe to bathe them? We are having company over Christmas and the two that got spayed have dried blood in their fur that I can't get out without giving them a bath. Plus, they still smell funny from the vet's office. I want them to be pretty and clean for our company. Would it be safe to give them a bath tomorrow?

actually, no this stuff that's in their fur...at this point I'm guessing its betadine or dried blood...wont come out...they can't get it out.

there are moist wipes or something for cats... makes them smell better and cleans them a bit i believe... saw them at my house

Call up your vet, i'm sure they'll be happy to explain. Also, you may not want to get it out depending on what it is (it may pull the fur and be quite painful or mess up stitches)

I wouldn't bathe them until the stiches are out

If your cats are anything like mine, then there's likely to be some kicking and jumping attempts while bathing

You want them to move as little as possible. . . I've heard nightmare stories of stitches coming undone

Just take a WARM damp cloth (they tend to fight less if the water is warm) and wipe them down as best as possible. . . but then again, they're probably pretty tender down there and won't want you to touch

Just do the best you can to keep them clean, but don't worry too much about it. . . they'll be fine with a little dried blood on them

BTW, I've had cats since forever, and I've never had one bleed after getting spayed Might wanna mention that to the kitty doc

I would have asked my vet, but they were closed all week. The only way I could have gotten in touch with them would be to call the emergency line, and this is obviously not an emergency. Around the place where they shaved them is where the stuff is caked on. Like, in the fur on their sides a bit. It was on them when I picked them up from the vet, so I know the vet saw it. I'm gonna try the moist wipes. The vet said that they had dissolving stitches, so I'm not exactly sure how long it takes them to dissolve or whatever. Thanks for the advice!

^ It's probably from the dissolving stitches. I know that my kitty and her littermates had the same stuff with dissolving stitches. You hadn't said that so I didn't mention.

We did the warm cloth thing and held it against the stitches becuase they were mildly allergic to them as it turns out, and so the area was a little swollen.

You could try that as suggested.
