I'm thinking about getting a bike as a primary form of transportation. I don't do a lot of driving anymore.Would it be unbearable to ride it during the winter months?

I've ridden everyday of this week. Every morning in the 20's have been... fun. I haven't much problems with ice, but once it gets colder and more precipitation, then you'd have to watch out for even more road hazards. Salt/sand also posses more hazards now to combat the ice. If you have the balls and clothes to do it, its not that bad. If your new to ridding, I'd say wait for spring to learn how to ride. Btw, neck socks are great.

it's not bad with the right gear/clothing. that's coming from someone who hates cold weather (unless it's snowing).

if it's not ur first real road bike you should be fine. i wouldnt want to learn how to ride one in the in winter though especially with the ice on early mornings.

i ride almost every day, get a good damn jacket and gloves, jeans are usually good enough for short trips, and a ski mask lower thingy (technical term) under your helmet to keep your neck and ears warm and you're all set. windsheilds definately help. (you'll never see one on my bike in the summer though, don't be a fag), tires dont hold well on a cold damn road though, my magna likes to swing the ass end out in turns

yeah i got the hawk back today and did a nice lil rolling burnout on those cold tires

i cant afford a burnout on damn metzlers, gotta get a few thousand more miles out of that rear, last one made it about 2,500

well it wasnt really a burnout. i have that brand tire too, they wear out quickly. it was more of the wheel losing massive traction mainly because the first gear on the hawk is really low on 35 and the cold tires didnt help out either.

I just put 2000 miles on my new tire, it looks like 1/2 thread now. I got 6,000 out of my old tire (same brand), but I wore that bitch down to the nylon band.

I got less than 6k out of my last tires. I put a set of Roadtec Z6 tires on last month to try to get longer wear. Traction feels good so far but I'm not a knee dragger.

i wear the damn thread off near the sidewalls on my rear, and straight down the center on the front when i use metzlers, dont have that problem with dunlops, but they ride like shit so thats probably why i dont ride it as hard

I don't have enough skill yet to knee drag, but i'm getting pretty low to the ground and take the curves fast and hard. Then again, its hard to find some decent roads in NC with good curves. Half the good curves I find have potholes in the middle of the roads.
