I need to learn about welding (types of welds, ways to weld)I myself am not going to be welding, but need an understanding of welding for a particular issue I am working on @ workPlease post pictures to help explain things too....Hopefully others will be able to learn from this too.

Try to find a PDF of the US Army Welding manual.Look on ESAB, Miller, Lincoln, and Hobart websites. The hobart one has a forum.

most common processes are oxy-acetylene, stick, MIG, TIGhobarts webpage i think has a lot of welding 101or google should be helpful.

best thing you can do is get one of those masks that auto darken... that way there isnt' that one sec before the weld starts that you're just sorta guessing

plenty of books/manual in the library and at most mechanical and automotive supply houses too. you have so many better outlets for info than tww. that's like posting in here about how to rebuild a motor.

Sleeves are for no-sunburn-no-slag-popping queerboys.Of course, if you spend your whole day welding, then it's stupid NOT to wear sleeves.But an hour here, an hour there...who needs sleeves? Unless of course, it's cold as hell in your shop like it is in mine.

if you want help like that then tell us:1. What material2. how thick3. strength issues (what kind of application)4. what kind of fitment, butted together, 90 degree angle, large gap, small gap, etc5. does it need to be pretty?
