11. thou shalt not question the opinion of pitchfork
12/19/2005 4:22:49 PM
I definitely look to Pitchfork for justification!Hey, let's go buy some American Apparel!!!
12/19/2005 4:22:51 PM
all i'm saying isat least i'm not the only person with a brain who recognized that song as quality
12/19/2005 4:23:53 PM
I can't tell if you're being serious or not.And I haven't heard the song. And there are certainly big pop songs with brilliant production and whatever. But the time when Pitchfork was anything close to relevant has long since passed.
12/19/2005 4:25:17 PM
seriously, that song is goodand how the fuck are you gonna say pitchfork isn't relevant[Edited on December 19, 2005 at 4:26 PM. Reason : ]

those ads are pretty gay, i'll give you thatthe only list i care to see is the top albums, which i guess will be about thursday or so
12/19/2005 6:00:16 PM
The last Pitchfork piece by a staff member worth reading was DiCrescenzo's review of "Lateralus".Kelly Clarkson is teh winz.
12/19/2005 6:03:35 PM
12/19/2005 6:03:59 PM
Has anyone read the Louis XIV review on pitchfork? Reviews like that are the reason I continue to read pitchfork.
12/19/2005 6:22:06 PM
how many years of indie cred are required to be too cool for pitchfork?
12/19/2005 6:49:00 PM
their reviews are almost all fluff and bullshit these days (even more than it used to be). the reviews of some of the big guys are still quality (brent dicr. . , ryan s., etc)
12/19/2005 6:55:15 PM
I'm in no way too cool for Pitchfork. It's just that Pitchfork is too lame for me.
12/19/2005 7:07:35 PM
oh man, that top 50 albums list is bad bad bad
12/20/2005 2:08:39 AM

^ ahahaha i love how grayson gets the dmb thing in every music thread he posts in
12/20/2005 3:40:56 AM
Did Kelly Clarkson just get on there because every girl with thick black glasses has the Ted Leo cover on her iPod, or am I crazy? Also, Art Brut is terrible.
12/20/2005 8:43:11 AM
i have thick black glasses, and my ipod is kelly clarkson free. unless you mean a ted leo cover of kelly clarkson, in which case, i may be wrong...
12/20/2005 9:29:50 AM
ahahahahahahahahahaahahah they put Kanye West at #2.Okay dudes. Whatever.
12/20/2005 10:16:46 AM
and that coming from a guy that says deerhoof "fucking sucks donkey balls."which makes me sad. and the sufjan album being #1 shouldn't be a given at all. [Edited on December 20, 2005 at 10:56 AM. Reason : .]

better than pretty good"spirit ditties of no tone" is one of the best songs i've heard all year.
12/20/2005 10:59:01 AM
Holy shit, Okkervil River made it gg them
12/20/2005 10:59:51 AM
Good Album list, pretty much spot on...And Illinois as #1 was well deserved and placed.Oh, and the review of "Gold Digger" by Kanye was pretty funny:
12/20/2005 11:25:55 AM
terrible list in both singles and albums. but obviously its not worth arguing since its just pitchfork's opinion and i abandoned that sh*thole years ago. but this list is incomplete, and basically sucks.and by sucks i dont mean that everyone on there sucks. there are some very talented artists and ive heard of and heard in some form almost all of the people on there through the first couple pages i looked through for both the singles and the albums.it sucks because they are missing so many CDs and so many singles. most of their top 10 isnt even quality.the vocals, production, lyrics, and everything about that song are a shame to music fans, recording studios, and producers everywhere. and to have that make their #4 is just ridiculous.they completely left bands out of the top 50 that released some of the top 25 albums of this year easily.Pelican: a very creative band almost reinventing structure in music for several years now released 2 CDs this spring.Between the Buried and Me: released one of the most creative and unique CDs from any genre by an american band this year. Covering everything from electronic to straight metal to jazz to beach music to power metal to synth pop to grind to hardcore to atmospheric instrumentals all on one cd.Sigur Ros: i glanced through the lists again quick (my internet is being stupidly slow here at my parnents house) easily one of the most creative and innovative bands in music today, always getting overlooked.i could go on and on.pitchfork can eat it
12/20/2005 11:47:46 AM
pelican was on a few of the writers' lists
12/20/2005 11:57:03 AM
Sigur Ros was everybody's darling four years ago. And then they just kept putting out the same shit over and over again. The new album may be nice to fall asleep to, but that is about it.Oh, and BTBAM belongs on that list about as much as Young Jeezy.Fuck, wait a second...
12/20/2005 12:01:12 PM
ill have to comb through the lists more thoroughly when i get home. i have a lot of others in mind i didnt see in first glance but i want to look again before i list them^^ and yea, if you dont think btbam's cd was more creative than even one of the bands in the top 50 then you sir need to be welcomed to music.[Edited on December 20, 2005 at 12:05 PM. Since when should website album lists have any bearing on what type of music you should or should not enjoy listening to. I've read all kinds of review on that site for albums I like that get shredded by their reviewers. I just laugh it off.
12/20/2005 12:16:20 PM
well the whole point is to try to find a website or reviewer who has a consistently similar views to you, so that you can depend on their opinion on an album or artist BEFORE you've heard, so that you know who or who not to spend your time on. pitchfork is not that site, unfortunately. they seem a little too far up their own asses at this point.
12/20/2005 12:38:09 PM
^well said
12/20/2005 1:06:23 PM
Black Sheep Boy should have been in the top 10 and the fact that the National wasnt even in their top 50 makes me laugh.btw, ive always wondered pf reviews rap. A review on JayZ or Eminem always seemed weird next to an article on Animal Collective.
12/20/2005 1:10:02 PM
87% of these bands will not be remembered in the next year or two

well i think most of us can agree this site sucks anymore and so does this list
12/20/2005 1:42:41 PM
the list didn't bother mehttp://www.treblezine.com has a pretty good list imo
12/20/2005 2:07:11 PM
^at least that list is 100x better than pitchfork's
12/20/2005 2:09:57 PM
^,^^ I like that one, too. I'll have to check out this site. Has anybody gotten into the MMJ? I listened to it a couple of times a month or so ago and it totally fell flat for me. Is it one of those that I should make myself listen to a few more times?
12/20/2005 2:51:56 PM
yeah, listen to the mmj some moreit's a big diversion, but it's worth it.jim james has some really odd imagery going on--kittens on fire, babies in blenders, etc.
12/20/2005 3:03:34 PM
This thread has moved too far away from the awesomeness of Miss Kelly Clarkson.
