AMD Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego - as high as they went before the $$$ chips, small size for better cooling
2 GB OCZ 3700 RAM - Because BF2 usually runs with about 1GB system memory and I'm always the first to load in to a map
ASUS A8N-SLI Premium mobo - because I might want to try a couple of 7800's in SLI when I get out of grad school and can drp that kind of cash for video cards. also a big fan of the passive cooling/heat tubes on the board. It also has 8 SATA connectors for a lot of flexibility. Onboard 7.1 surround sound kicks ass (thou I only use 2.1 of the channels right now), an asston of USB 2.0 (8 I think), and 2 10/100 connections
2 160 GB Seagate SATA HDD in Raid 0 - I trust seagate, they have good access speeds, and I don't have anything important on my desktop to warrant a Raid 1...and I reformat every few months anyway
Sapphire x800XL 512MB video card - 512 MB kicks some tail, plus it has 12 pixel pipelines for less $ than lower pipes on other cards, cooling vents direct to case exterior thru a second slot vent. I run BF2 completely maxed out with no gaphical lag
Lite-ON DVD burner - again, it's who you trust and I trust Lite-ON for by burners. I don't make DVD's yet, but it's nice to know I have the option in the future.
Viewsonic e90f 19" CRT - never been let down by VS quality. 19" is plenty big for me, and I like CRTs better for gaming
Dell 19" monitor - because my grad school was giving them away for free when they upgraded their systems, and it is actually nice to be able to have a spreadsheet open on one screen and do analysis on another without having to switch back and forth. Plus, I have my old gaming rig hooked up thru a KVM switch and can keep on gaming while flipping monitors to change music (old rig pretty much just used for tunes and movies thru my entertainment center and TV)

im definitely going to be overclocking some stuff sometime. the thing is running idle b/w 22-26 C lately and under load in the mid 30s. i could overclock my processor like mad and still have it running cool just under air cooling. but i have no need to atm

Best of all, I shopped around quite a bit and built it all for about $1100, and this was way back last summer.

Only thing I'd change about it is that I do need a more practical way to keep it all cool. My desk has a closed cabinet which really doesn't agree with this machine. Water cooling would work well, I suppose. Aside from that, I absolutely swear by each of the manufacturers who created my components. I have been building PC's using their components for years now, and I've never once had any disastrous failures. Hell, the most significant thing I've ever had happen was that my GeForce 6800 burned out, and BFG had me a brand new replacement the NEXT DAY. Now that's supreme customer service.

I got an AIW card about a year ago and never knew it had a record feature until about 2 months ago... and since then I filled up my 120 and 40gig HD's... so I figure a 200gig for $40 online for black friday couldn't hurt anything.
