Can anyone explain this fucking phenomenon to me???He's better than Sean May/Raymond Felton combined right now...

I agree
12/17/2005 7:45:39 AM
It's that NC State bloodline.
12/17/2005 8:18:43 AM
probably because Duke wasn't the best place for him to go to college.
12/17/2005 8:52:15 AM
should have turned pro straight out of highschool. He would have been drafted higher.
12/17/2005 8:55:58 AM
shoulda gone to anywhere but dukeby the way, i disagree with your assertion. he's probably outplaying felton, but not may.[Edited on December 17, 2005 at 9:28 AM. Reason : .]

If you want to play ball in the NBA, you should never go to Duke. Everyone knows Duke players are cursed. Even the good NBA players from Duke are cursed, like Grant Hill (injuries) and Elton Brand (plays for the Clippers). You want to play in the NBA, play for Pitino or Calhoun. Duke is for Trajon Langdon and Cherokee Parks, not NBA superstars.
12/17/2005 10:03:45 AM
i wouldnt go that far, but shav wasnt fit for duke. he didnt fit the duke "big man" mold, and as such, he floundered. he woulda been a lot better suited in our system, but anybody else would recognize talent and adjust. coach k, for better or worse, decided not to.
12/17/2005 10:10:40 AM
i think coach k was responsible for having him bulk up, which has helped his nba game (he may have done this at another school also, but who knows). from the looks of it, shav may turn into a pretty decent nba role player...not quite what was expected out of high school, but he'll still be making millions

12/17/2005 11:18:44 AM
saying duhon is exploding in chicago might be a bit of a stretch, but i agree with the rest of your assessment. duke players have been doing better in the nba. unfortunately for duke, several of these players are people leaving early. is it a change in recruiting strategy or just a changing of athletes' mindsets going into college?
12/17/2005 11:37:54 AM
^^agreeOne of their problems is they get drafted by notoriously horrible teams, so they never have a chance to develop before they are shoved into the spotlight. The expectations are so high for players comming out of duke that a few are bound not to live up to the hype. The players ^^ mentioned are prime examples of Duke players having good careers. You also have to remember that Duke hasnt been good for that long. The "cursed" players were really only from the 90's and there are really only about 2 or three of them. Right now they're turning it around and they will be winning championships before long.^Duhon IS exploding in chicago. Averaging 30 minutes a game is pretty freakin good for a player who they said ruined his career by not leaving after his sophmore year of college. He wasnt expected to do shit, so in that respect, he is doing great...ask him about the contract he signed. [Edited on December 17, 2005 at 11:41 AM. I think coach k kinda restrains guys while he has em'. He never really lets them showcase their true talents. Almost keeping them on a long leash. When they get to the league, they rally. But im trumped when it comes to the Shav Randolp thing, I just can't put that shit together
12/17/2005 11:42:55 AM
i would hardly say boozer is a powerfull force in the nba, you heard his name mentioned alot his first two years, since then i haven't heard anything about him and didn't even know he was still in the league till you typed that.
12/17/2005 11:43:50 AM
12/17/2005 12:05:36 PM
Do the names Danny Ferry, Trajan Langdon, Cherokee Parks, and Willam Avery ring any bell?
12/17/2005 12:06:42 PM
12/17/2005 12:07:45 PM
Most of the Duke players in the NBA right now are there because their talents alone. Coach K can't develop them. Case example, Shavlik Randolph. He's still the same player as he was in HS. Another name to put in, Casey Sanders. Remmember him?
12/17/2005 12:14:54 PM
what would jay williams do?
12/17/2005 12:14:55 PM
Well, you tell me if this is a flopDuhon is getting 9 million over the next 3 year$..guaranteed. I'd call that exploding considering he could be sitting on the bench behind Wojo. You cant say his output was horrible last year. He was leading rookies in assist/turnover ratio for most of the season, and oddly enough, they lost their playoff games when he got hurt. Plus, he was splitting time with Gordon and Heinrich, so his numbers are automatically going to be low. All they asked him to do was produce for 20 minutes a game and he did. Boozer is getting 11 million a year for the next 5 years...I'd say he's done enough. http://www.hoopshype.com/salaries.htm
12/17/2005 12:19:35 PM
dont care about contracts. adonal foyle got a huge contract and he was hardly "exploding" in the nba...duhon's production sucked last year. even if assist:turnover wasnt bad, it still wasnt "exploding". i'm not arguing that the guy sucks this year or anything, i'm just saying that he's not "exploding in chicago".[Edited on December 17, 2005 at 12:22 PM. traceryou're not reading what I typed. I'm not saying he's a superstar by any means. Superstars are few and far between. All i'm saying is that he's having a great career so far compared to what was expected of him. Exploding is the wrong word, but I wasnt the first to use it. The contracts are worth something. They obviously proved to someone that they were worth the money.

fair enoughbut carlos boozer: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3632looks good to me17 points a game on 52 percent field goals and 34 minutes a game. Not his fault his team blows cocks
12/17/2005 12:32:45 PM
Boozer has been hurt and he plays for a team that gets no media attention. He's one of the top post players in the game right now when healthy though.Brand is potentially the MVP of the league this year...Exploding is a bit of an exaggeration for Duhon, but he is a quality PG... not one of the ten best in the league, but he has a lengthy career ahead of him.Deng looks like a he's going to be a really good player and maybe even an All-Star in a few years.Sean May is shooting like 40% from the field... his rebound numbers are great, but that shooting% worries me...Felton might have the lowest FG% in the league at 29%.Shav is rebounding like a madman... we all knew he was a great shot blocker and a good shooter, but I didnt think he could rebound like this in the NBA.
12/17/2005 1:05:31 PM
he was a good rebounder in college his only problem was defense. he always fouled out really really quick. maybe hes just learned how to not foul and im sure the extra foul allotted to him helps. duhons stats arent good but he specializes in things like great defense and good pg decisiions that dont show up on the stat sheet.and i do agree with the coach k keeping players on a leash thing. jj and jwill are probobly only two players in a long time to not be on a leash
12/17/2005 1:18:14 PM
^^may definitely looks shaky at times. too many long jumpers. its surprising though that he's been the most productive of the two rookies though...to me anyway. felton has his moments, but he looks like a rookie way more often than may.
12/17/2005 1:30:28 PM
May doesn't look like a rookieHe looks like a 6 year old
12/17/2005 1:36:55 PM

12/17/2005 10:38:43 PM
One major problem for Shav at duke was that Coach K always had to have him play the 2nd big next to Shelden. He never got to play the wing at all, and take the outside jumper, which was a big part of his high school game. He was also playing injured during the vast majority of his college career, and he has worked a lot of that out now. He has also been playing against Chris Webber in practice since last summer, which has probably helped.
12/18/2005 2:58:02 AM
^^^yes, he has been injured, but at the same time, he hasn't been making much contribution when i is on the court, the few times i heard about him last season it was "wow, boozer had a double-double", but that was only once or twice, or trade talks as one of 3 or 4 guys goin to a team for a superstar.[Edited on December 18, 2005 at 3:02 AM. hey peshi...don't be jealous that your high school has never produced a solid NBA player like BHS has (two by the way)and I say this w/o knowing what HS you went to, or giving a fuck::warning, rumors ahead::friend of mine, who played high school ball with Shav for 2 years said that he heard from a mutual friend that during training camp, Iverson said to Shav that he liked his style and that during a scrimmage Iverson decided that when he was going to pass the ball, he would only pass to Shavlikto get a vote of confidence like that from one of the (if not the) best players in the league is straight up solid as hellbtw...8 pts. (3/6) 10 rebs. (6 offensive, which is where he has excelled) 1 stl. 1 ast. in a loss to Miami[Edited on December 18, 2005 at 4:10 AM. Reason : .][Edited on December 18, 2005 at 4:12 AM. Reason : .]

Alright. I'll go with James Worthy and Darrell Armstrong. Talk to me in 10 years if Shav can manage that.
12/18/2005 4:19:48 AM
you have a legit point w/ Worthy, but Armstrong....give me a fucking break
12/18/2005 4:23:50 AM
He's had a solid career, and for 3 or 4 years he was a top 10 player in the league at his position which is way more than you can say for Shavlik now or probably ever.

I don't have the answer off the top of my head, but it seems ot me that since the 98 year, Duke has had about 3 times as many Mcdonald's guys as the next closest team (maybe UCONN or Texas) Duke usually gets 3 a year, therefore post 1998, they SHOULD have a load of NBA talent currently. And previous to 98 who from duke made it in the pros, making it mean one all star game or something to that affect, certainly not Ferry, Laettner, Grant Hill has been plagued, but made a few all star rosters, but I'm sure his expecations were much greater. Whomever stated that the Duke "successful" players in the NBA are doing it off their given talent is exactly right. Elton Brand and Boozer are bruisers, always have. Elton Brand sure didn't shoot the ball outside the paint in college, he does now, same with Boozer. Bottom Line: Show me a team that went on a stretch of 4 final fours (1989, 91, 92, 94) with two championships and had Danny Ferry, Laettner, and an injured Grant Hill to show for it in the NBA.Also, long live Erik Meeks and Greg Newton
