They are complaining that Colorado didn't consider a black person to be their coach.I understand trying to diversify coaching ranks, but if I wanted Coach A then why interview Coach B just because Coach B is black. I think it will hurts more in the long run because teams will just start interviewing black coaches just to keep the BCA off of their backs even though they would never consider hiring that guy.

I heard this discussed somewhere, I can't remember where, but the general consensus was that the majority of coaches today played in a league that was a white majority. Now the league is probably a black majority (I'm not sure, but seems like it) so as today's players get older there will be more and more black coaches getting positions. But yeah, if a black coach is more qualified, then they should be hired, but not because they're black. The BCA is "trying" to promote diversity, but all they're doing is spreading the racial gap.

ugh, not the race card again. I'm so sick of this crap. Colorado hired the best candidate.... and he's white. They must be racists! The only way to end racism is to shut the hell up about it and stop putting it in the forefront of the media. These people do more harm than good

Look at what Notre Dame did. I mean why consider anyone other than Weis?

they're going about this the wrong way... people don't respond well to punishment, if they wanted to encourage schools to consider black coaches then what they should be doing is getting their PR people to issue statements doing nothing but praising Buffalo for hiring a black coach...sure, it's a less prestigious program, and that's probably why they don't want to do it, but it'd be a better way of going about things and it would bring positive attention to the BCA, Buffalo, the NCAA, and the sport in general instead of just heaping more negative attention on it

If I'm a black coach, I wouldn't want to coach at Colorado anyway. The whole school is white, the only black students are the athletes.

you are a black coach though

why can't we all just get along

As a multiracial guy in a graduate school for Sports Management, I understand why the BCA would be upset about Colorado's quick decision. I defintely think the Buffs made a very, very great coaching decision. But the things that irks me is that, they should of atleast looked at ONE quality minority coach. If the Boise St. Guy is the best in the field of coaches than go for him(which he was at the time). I always want the BEST candidate chosen for whatever position is out there, I dont care what color the person is...but some of you are NAIEVE, if you think race is not an issue when it comes to certain big time programs. For example, what if 99% of the big DI football schools had all minority coaches(even if some of the minority coaches were NOT thes best out there), and there was 1% of white coaches at D1 schools..., EVERY single while male at NCSU would be mad as hell if this were the case as much as you guys love NCSU football.........do you see why the BCA makes such a fuss that atleast one minority candidate is interviewed...there not saying the minority candidate is the best out there because they are minority, but atleast give them a solid chance to have their name on the table... AND THEN select the best candidate for the position.....and if he's white so be it..and if he's black so be it....I dont care if he's Indian ....just as long as the fucker can coach and recruit his ass off!

one of these days, non-bl4x0rs are gonna start doing this
12/17/2005 6:50:26 PM
Every fucking year this issue is brought up. Wouldn't the people who hire the coaches know better by now to at least ATTEMPT to interview a non-caucasian coach?

99.9% of white people weren't considered also. You don't see us whining.

I thought there were a lot of minority coaches, just mostly the smaller, more specialized of the coaching staff. It kind of makes sense to me. The people with less athletic ability (da honkies) are going to find ways to compensate (play smarter). By relying on their brainpower, they become more mentally accustomed to the game, and therefore more mentally able to coach. The people with more athletic ability (da blackamoors) are going to rely on their physical qualities. They find ways to become more athletic, making them better suited to trainers and position coaches, etc.

Colorado should have had the political savvy to understand you sometimes have to interview people to take off the political heat. Even if their selection process was fair and legit, sometimes you have to show consideration of others to illustrate the apparent legitimacy of the process. That having been said, when will people realize the BCA is more of a union then a civil rights group?
