As sort of a corallary to the avoidance thread, recommendations for *good* proffs should go here, less griping i suppose and possibly more helpful. My recommendations-CSC Dept:116/216 - Miller or Schwartz.246 - Miller226 - Bitzer316- Lester (some people didnt like him, but I did. there are other threads about him though where I"ve posted).405- Sammie Carter - fucking awesome class to boot. Math Dept:Dr. Scroggs for Calc 2. Head of undergraduate math (or was, think still is).305- Langville ECE 206- G. Byrd PE103- Charles.

MA242 - Chu - Smart guy, funny, has a bit of an accent, but overall I learned a lot in his class.ENG221 - Kellner - He made english class interesting, and he grades pretty darn generously.PY208 - Risley - Good teacher. This class should be easier than other physics classes, easier to learn, easier to test (easier all around).

Hong or ThePitts for any math class. I don't think ThePitts is a professor (at least he wasn't when he taught my class) but he was a good guy. Also, Neyhart for chemistry.

Paddy Taylor taught me Calc1. He deserves a medal. I'm always seeing him in the lab helping students out, and he's completely approachable. Great, helpful personality. I saw one student approach him w/ a question on maple lab "Sir, I-I'm sorry, i just cant figure this, out, will you please help".. to which he replied, "You should NEVER be sorry to ask me or any other professor for help, because it is our job to help you learn this."Another great teacher, M. McCollum. She taught MA241 to me. She's an absolute sweetheart, knows the material very well, and provides useful ways of helping remember it.

I agree, Paddy was awesome, I had him for MA341

HI 207 -- ParkerReally nice. He knows his stuff and has lots of good stories. But he will work you to death for a 200 level class.HI 321 -- SyllaONLY IF YOU REALLY LOVE THE MATERIAL. Otherwise, the class and the professor will be incredibly boring. Fortunately I did love the material. She's likes students who can present their own opinion of things as long as they can support them.ECE 212 -- BradleyI dunno if he's gonna be teaching much longer. He's retired from IBM. Great stories, he knows the stuff, and tells corny jokes that you can't help but laugh at.MUS 306 -- WaschkaYou will listen to some strange stuff in this class. But it's a lot of fun, and he's really nice. Fun project at the end of the semester.CE 214 -- ParishAll around good professor. Competent at teaching clearly, fair, cares about the students, entertaining in lectures, etc. All the qualities that matter.ECE 302 -- YuI'll put it this way: I got a B in 302. She's a miracle worker.PE 102 -- WinslowEnthusiastic about the class, but won't kill you if you don't share in his enthusiasm.ECE 402 -- HughesAnother all around good professor. The only one I've ever had to use Power Point effectively. Has a great background in the material, cares about his students, is fair, and occasionally entertaining (like Hillary Duff....?).ECE 303 -- LazziHe makes the class fairly interesting. Pretty much does the homework for you in class. HARD tests.[Edited on December 15, 2005 at 1:34 PM. Reason : bold]

I'll second:MA 241/242 - Stitzinger- I remember seeing that name, I think that's who I had (tall, thin man, very easy going)My list:ACC:- Chen (420): He seemed kinda hardass at first, but after the first week or two he softened up; extremely courteous, prompt feedback (and calls back if you call his office in serious need of something), easy to talk to.- Carraway (210): Again, nice, common-sense kinda guy. Easy to listen to, easy to talk to. Prompt grading.-- I'm going to DISAGREE STRONGLY on SCOTT. I'll spare the story, but I found her to be bitchy.BUS- Favre (370, 495): Very approachable, very common sense, always there to help as long as he thinks you're trying- Sloan (320): Amusing to listen to - his stories help the class go by faster and help you understand the materialCH:- Gorman (221/223): He doesn't really give a shit about any of the students outside of class, but he does make sure his TA's grade fast and fair including partial credit and he's open to any questions in class .. as long as he doesn't think you were sleeping.CHE- Genzer (205): He has a heavy accent, but he's a VERY nice man and willing to help students. He doesn't act like it's beneath him like some do.- Bullard (any): I asked her to be my advisor because my real advisor was an ass. She's particularly helpful to other women in engineering COM- Kenny (112): short and amusing He makes an otherwise boring class fun ... and since it fills a requirement, you might as well not hate yourself the whole time you're taking it.

They rock.ST: Thompson and Lee. The former is cooler than the latter, but they're both good none the less.I think that's about all i've had.[Edited on December 19, 2005 at 8:17 PM. Reason : ST]

PHI - Matt HettcheHe was quick to repond to any questions I had and was always friendly. I had no problem receiving an extension for my course project that I'd fallen behind on. He was by far the best prof. I had this past semester.
