for some reason when i type in web addresses into explorer's address bar, it takes FOREVER (like minutes) to load. but since google is one of my links it loads quickly. i can type in the same web address into google and it will come up immediately. what's the deal? is this some function of my company's firewall or security something or other? just curious.

k, no choice on my internet browser (mozilla, etc) as i have no ability to load any software on my company computer.

gracias

Okay.

So, if you type in http://www.hoteskimoporn.com, it takes forever, but if you google the address and then click on the link it loads quickly?

hmmm, i'm surprised http://www.hoteskimoporn.com, loads at all. you've got a comma after the .com. take that out and you should be fine

Load up the google website and hit refresh. you might be loading a cache'd version which is why it loads fast. If the reload goes quick you might want to check your internet connection.

That's really strange.

I've got nothing.

If it makes you feel better, blogger.com and *.blogspot.com inexplicably reboot my office's router about 50% of the time.

I suspect that your company redirects http requests to a proxy server and/or cache engine. There must be something distinct in requesting a web page from the address bar in a browser versus an href from another web page that doesn't redirect the latter type to the proxy server or cache-engine. I don't know what that distinction is off the top of my head, but i'd wager that the IT folks aren't aware of that distinction either and didn't configure their router quite right.

Try using the IP address of a website instead of the DNS name. it _shouldn't_ behave any differently, but i'm curious.

yahoo would be http://68.142.226.39

hmmm thanks... i tried the yahoo's IP and it loaded fast. but yahoo is also one of my links and those always come up immediately.

this is just really irritating! i'm afraid if i say something to the IT folks, they will just screw up my google method too!
