"Microsoft Smartphone 2003 Operating System
Packed with familiar Microsoft software, the i930 offers full personal information management and e-mail functionality. When you're on the go, the i930 lets you send and receive e-mail and text messages, schedule appointments, manage contacts, and organize tasks.
Nextel Worldwide Service
Stay connected in over 100 countries with Nextel Worldwide service. Make and receive calls around the world with one phone and one number. Get reliable service and 24/7 customer support. And pay just one low per-minute rate for all the calls you make and receive. Click here to learn more about this service from Nextel.
65K Color Display
Vibrant display with enhanced clarity allows you to customize your screen with downloadable wallpapers, adjustable color palettes, and choice of three font sizes.
Built-in 310 Camera and Camcorder with Spotlight
Capture and save images and video for personal and business purposes and send them to friends and colleagues.
Microsoft Pocket Outlook
With the i930, you can access and update your Microsoft Outlook e-mail. The Pocket Outlook application allows you to view and update your Inbox. With ActiveSync, synchronizing your i930 email data with your desktop PC or to a Microsoft Exchange server is a breeze. Just use ActiveSync® to set up and maintain over-the-air email synchronization and keep your important information at hand.
Microsoft Pocket Internet Explorer
Browse the Web While on the Go! Pocket Internet Explorer enables you to browse Web content, including intranet sites and streaming video or music files - all in just a couple of keystrokes. Pocket Internet Explorer supports HTML and WAP, allowing you to surf, shop, or trade online. The added security features help protect online shopping or access to corporate data.
Wireless Synchronization with Personal Email or Corporate Outlook (ActiveSync)
The i930 makes it easy to keep information on your mobile device synchronized with information on your desktop or notebook computer by using ActiveSync. ActiveSync can be configured to wirelessly synchronize on demand, or it can be configured to synchronize on an automated schedule. For example, ActiveSync can automatically check your e-mail, contacts, calendar and tasks - every 5, 10, or 30 minutes - in Microsoft Outlook for differences between the device and your computer and then make the necessary updates. Or you can synchronize on demand for updates whenever you need them.
Multimedia Messaging Service
Send or receive Multimedia Messages (either audio, images, text, or all three in the same message) to or from email addresses and other capable users. You can even wirelessly store multimedia on the Sprint web site. Click here to learn more about this new service.
Windows Media Player
Listen to music and watch videos by streaming over the wireless web, or by transferring them to the i930 from your computer.
MSN Messenger
Just like on your computer – send instant messages to anyone on your contact list and interact with multiple people at the same time.
Email Attachment Viewer
Open and view PowerPoint® presentations, Excel graphs, worksheets and charts, Word documents, PDFs and .bmp, .jpg and .png digital images.
Secure Digital Slot
The i930 also includes a Secure Digital (SD) card slot, so you can store music, games and other files on the removable memory, making it possible to take all the files you need with you.
Infrared Port
The i930 has the ability to connect via infrared beam to other infrared-enabled devices: Pocket PCs, PDAs, mobile phones, PCs, or other devices. Beaming is a great way to send your friends or co-workers pictures, audio files, your electronic business card or a calendar appointment.
Smartdial
Smartdial locate any contact quickly by displaying a list of contacts based on the letter or number you type in to search for. If you type in the numbers 566 to spell 'J','O','N', it will automatically display all your contacts with these three letters in them, so you don’t have to enter the entire name.
Predictive Text Input
The i930 supports T9® predictive text entry for entering text on using just one key press per letter. Ex., if you spell 'phone' by pressing, 7-4-6-6-3 on the keypad, T9 matches that sequence with "phone." If more than one word shares the same sequence, T9 provides the next most commonly used words.
Speakerphone
Safe, hands-free cellular conversations are always available with the built-in speakerphone.

best places to read up on it

http://www.insiderforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=43

http://www.nextelmodz.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=122

i had one and kept it for less than a week because it had a problem where it was stuck in data communication all the time and would not take incomming calls or beeps. i also could not figure out how to work the fucker.

edit:

from what i just read you can get it "de-certified" now so that it will allow you to install non-nextel apps.

I have had them both and prefer the i870. If you will use the smartphone features the i930 is the way to go, but its too much bullshit to deal with if you wont. The i870 has bluetooth which is so handy for when you are on the phone with someone and they are babbling on and on and you dont feel like holding the phone to your head.
