if you drink alone? Not excessively... just a drink or two?My friend and i were having an argument about it.so I thought i'd see what others say

it's no different than eating alone.
12/8/2005 11:34:30 PM
sometimes i make love alone
12/8/2005 11:39:07 PM
no, that definitely doesn't make you an alcoholic, IMO.
12/8/2005 11:41:13 PM
no, as long as you don't get drunk every night by yourself i think you are okay
12/8/2005 11:43:45 PM
beer tastes best in the shower
12/8/2005 11:45:14 PM
that's what I thought... now I have at least 4 other people that agree with me... so I win!!

You are an alcoholic if you can't control your drinking. If you drink in moderation, you aren't an alcoholic.
12/8/2005 11:46:58 PM
drinking alone definitely does not make you an alcoholic. Unless it's Old English. Then you're an alcoholic.
12/8/2005 11:49:39 PM
I'll occassionally cook myself a nice dinner and finish a bottle by myself in one night. Am I an alcoholic? No. Everything in moderation.

I remember coming home from class and mixing me a great big old Hardee's Moose cup with about half Turkey 101 and half lemonade. Some days it was more like 3/4 Turkey and 1/4 lemonade. And hell yeah I drank it alone, sittin' on my back deck over offa Vann St (cul de sac side before it got ghetto)...I didn't consider myself to be an alcoholic back then. Now I know better.Bottom line is, if you like the stuff a lot, and you find yourself tempted to have another and maybe yet another, then you might want to give it some serious thought. If you can have one by yourself and just keep it at one, maybe two over a period of time then you might just be okay.

i don't think the question is whether or not you drink in moderation, it is what you consider drinking in moderation.
12/9/2005 12:57:10 AM
mmmm.... beer
12/9/2005 1:10:12 AM
Definately not, from what you described.I have a beer or glass of wine by myself sometimes at home, just so I can unwind.Sometimes it's a mixed drink instead. But i dont consider it "alcoholism" when i never drink to get drunk, and have no problems saying i dont want another or I dont want any.

you are only an alcoholic if it controls you.i do a self imposed sobriety week every so often to make sure i can.
12/9/2005 10:00:33 AM
it's not so much drinking alone...but if the person feels that they should cut back but can't...can't wake up in the morning without it or uses it to calm their nerves frequently...gets annoyed when ppl talk to them about their drinking...doesn't know their limit/can't say no

if you stop off on the way home and get a 12 pack every night and drink 2 by the time you're home from the store then you're an alcoholic (that's pretty much where i've seen people enter into the whole alcoholic thing, it gets worse than that - and they can still be functional, although eventually they wind up needing somebody to blow in their ignition so they can go to work)most recent round of research finds that one drink a day for women and 2 for men has signficant benefits regardless of what kind of booze it is (liquor, wine, or beer)you can't have a dibilitating disease drinking at a level that actually improves your health[Edited on December 9, 2005 at 10:09 AM. Reason : and you shouldn't be friends with such an idiot]

You are only an alcoholic if you have no disciprine.
12/9/2005 10:10:59 AM
