If there is a similar topic out there I apologize, but my friends and I are debating whether to spend New Years Eve night in Charlotte after the bowl game. Does the city have any special new years eve events going on or is the nightlife there generally good or what? Just trying to figure out if its worth it to stay in Charlotte new years eve night as opposed to the night before. Thanks guys

new years in downtown charlotte is always fun. fireworks, countdown, all that shitdowntown charlotte's nightlife has improved quite a bit in the past few years, lots more places to go
12/8/2005 6:16:40 PM
New Year's is what you would expect for a decent sized city. Tons of people go downtown to do the countdown thing and watch the fireworks at midnight. People get wasted at the bars/clubs, go out in the middle of downtown to do the countdown/fireworks thing, then go back to the bars/clubs to get wasted even more. Pretty much your typical big city atmosphere albeit not on the scale of NY City or anything. Whole thing is if you are gonna go downtown and you want to get a cab, you are screwed, you won't get one. Demand far exceeds supply as far as cabs go on New Years. So you might want a DD or stay at a hotel that's in a close proximity to downtown.[Edited on December 8, 2005 at 6:22 PM. Reason : ^pretty much what he said.]

a downtown hotel room would make everything a lot easier. you'd be within walking distance of everything you need

^^http://charlotte.citysearch.com/find/section/charlotte/hotels_visitors.html?you oughta be able to find something there. there's a holiday inn in downtown, a westin, the dunhill, the omni, hilton, marriott, maybe a couple more right outside of downtown.[Edited on December 9, 2005 at 11:15 AM. the Westin is a very impressive building. expect to pay $115+/night there. you can sometimes get hotel offers in the upper 90s.
12/9/2005 11:31:53 AM
thanks!
12/9/2005 4:12:59 PM
try $225 for the cheapest room - I think they're booked solid.
12/9/2005 4:15:44 PM
http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/cltup?WT_Ref=mi_leftcourtyard marriott center city has rooms with 1 queen bed for 149 a night. its right in the middle of uptown charlotte, close to the bars and the stadium

you're not going to be able to find a hotel for just the 31st. Everywhere is requiring 2 nights.
12/9/2005 7:37:24 PM
12/9/2005 7:40:39 PM
everything is booked downtown so we are staying at a hotel near the airport, which i think is like 5 miles from downtown (or so my sister says). and its about 125 a night. so if anyone is having trouble finding somewhere, look for hotels near the airport.forgot to add we are staying 30th and 31st[Edited on December 9, 2005 at 7:41 PM.
